Tesla Texas Gigafactory has achieved another milestone.
The Tesla Texas Gigafactory has recorded another milestone as the automaker made an announcement that it has produced its 10,000th Model Y SUV, as per Engadget.
Tesla Texas Gigafactory Could Produce the Cybertruck Next
Tesla is expected to deliver the completed Model Y electric vehicle soon. These will then be available to buyers.
The completion of Model Y 10,000th unit only shows that the automaker managed to ramp up its EV production.
According to a report by TechTimes, the production of the 10,000th Model Y "gives a good sign for future releases including the Cybertruck."
Engadget mentioned in its report that Tesla plans to build the Cybertruck production mainly in Texas Gigafactory. Therefore, the 10,000th Model Y record is a significant sign that the said factory is ready for its future ventures.
While, Tesla is not yet issuing any statement regarding its preparation for the production of the Cybertruck, the recent milestone of the automaker is a good sign that the company is ready for its future endeavors.
The volume production of the Cybertruck was initially expected to start in 2021. However, Tesla moved it to 2022, and moved it again to 2023.
According to TechTimes, the production of the Cybertruck depends on a casting machine that will make it "unibody" shell. It is expected to come "from the 9,000-ton casting machine from the IDRA Group."
The said casting machine expected to be "in place" for Gigafactory Texas, the factory where the Cybertruck of Tesla will be manufactured and produced.
Using the casting machine, it is expected that Gigafatory Texas will soon be the primary location where the Cybertruck will be produced. It is also expected that the availability of the casting machine will speed up the process of Cybertruck manufacturing.
The recent milestone achieved by Gigafactory Texas for the Model Y is a good sign that the said factory is ready to handle the future ventures of the automaker company including the production of the Cybertruck.
Tesla Produces Over One Thousand Vehicles Per Week
According to Electrek, Tesla did not reveal the automaker's current production rate of the Model Y but based on the news site's speculation, it's probably over one thousand vehicles per week.
Based on Electrek's report last June, Tesla managed to increase the production of its vehicles at the factory. However, it was also around the same time that Tesla started to create Model Y vehicles using 2170 cells, or the old battery architecture.
Meanwhile, Engadget mentioned that the "bottleneck" related to Tesla's next generation 4680 battery cells is partly the reason why Tesla's next EV hasn't arrived yet.
The automaker's CEO Elon Musk boasted the 4680 battery cells technology in 2020, saying it would make EV cost less. However, Tesla and battery partner Panasonic "had yet to produce the cells at scale."
Tesla started offering a new variant of Model Y featuring 4680 battery cells in April this year. The vehicle can travel 279 miles on a single charge, with the price starting at $59,990.
