The phablet market is getting very popular and Apple is said to be working on a new iPhablet, which may launch in 2014.
iFans have already penned down Sept. 10 as Apple has planned an event on this date where the company is expected to launch the long-awaited iPhone 5S and the budget friendly iPhone 5C. Rumors suggest that Apple is also working on an iPhablet, but it seems very unlikely that the company will launch such a device this year.
"The electronics giant has begun evaluating a plan to offer iPhones with screens ranging from 4.8 inches to as high as 6 inches, people familiar with the matter say. That would be a sizable leap from the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5 released last year, and, at the upper end, would be one of the largest on the market," reports The Wall Street Journal.
The current iPhone 5 sports a 4-inch display, but many smartphone customers want to get hold of a handset with a display size of 5-inch or above.
Many phablets are available in the market but Samsung is currently the most popular amongst all phablet makers. The Samsung Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Note 2 have been very successful in the phabet arena and the company will hope that the recently-launched Galaxy Note 3 gets a similar welcome from customers and tech gurus alike.
Apple revolutionized the smartphone market with the launch of iPhone. Similarly, the iPad and the iPad mini have been extremely popular in the tablet market. Currently, Apple doesn't have a phablet in the market but a new smartphone with a bigger screen may be highly-welcomed by iFans.
The WSJ cites sources familiar with Apple's plans and the report also suggests that Apple is already testing a 4.8-inch screen device.
The iPhone 5 was the first handset the company produced sporting a bigger 4-inch display. All previous iterations of the handset have had a smaller 3.5-inch display. Rumors hint that the next-generation iPhone 5S will have the same display size as the iPhone 5. However, going with market demand, the company may soon launch a bigger-sized handset to meet customer needs.
For now, iFans are eagerly waiting for Apple to launch a new device at the Sept. 10 event.
