Bethesda is Letting Gamers Port Their Elder Scrolls Online Accounts From Stadia to Windows, Mac

Following the announcement of Google's Stadia shutdown, the gaming platform is letting Bethesda users transfer their Elder Scrolls Online games to a computer.

Bethesda is letting their users keep their Elder Scroll purchases and data from Stadia to Window without having to pay any additional fees, Digital Trends writes.

Bethesda Offers Free Copies of Elder Scrolls

Google is pulling the plug on Stadia in January 2023, and because of this, players will no longer have access to their games or saved data.

However, with the impending shutdown of Stadia, players are getting free copies of Elder Scrolls Online from developers to help them transfer any in-game progress to a PC.

Players can now migrate from Stadia to Windows without having to leave behind their progress and achievements, and repurchase characters, content, and inventory items.

According to The Verge, a few members of the Stadia subreddit say that Bethesda has sent emails to account owners with instructions on how to set the game up and run them on computers.

The email details how to log in into the Elder Scrolls Online site and how to download the game, but it also claims that the transfer can not be made from Stadia to PlayStation or Xbox.

9to5 Google reports that a Twitter announcement has also been made on October 6, but it did not provide enough details on how players can make the transfer and what steps to take next.

Despite this, the distribution of free Elder Scrolls directly through ESO client logins still brings players a huge save since the base game starts at $19.99 on gaming platforms like Steam.

"Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Online Studios have been discussing next steps for our Elder Scrolls Online Stadia Players and we appreciate your patience," Bethesda says.

Developer Zenimax Confirms Cross-play Availability

Zenimax, one of the developers of Elder Scrolls Online, says that all progress in the game are already hosted in their online servers since the cross-play between Stadia and PC had been made available.

Elder Scrolls Online's official website says that this will let users continue their adventure in Tamriel by simply logging into their accounts without the risk of losing anything.

After logging on to the official website, users should download the game client and they will be able to recover their accounts.

However, should users' login attempts fail, they can recover their User ID and reset their passwords instead.

According to 9to5 Google, up to this date, it is unclear how many players access and play Elder Scrolls Online through Google's cloud gaming platform Stadia, but the number has grown since 2014.

With the closure of Stadia, Bethesda and Zenimax are not the only companies forced out of the cloud, and are only two of the companies offering help to users transfer their games on PCs.

The Verge says that Ubisoft has also confirmed that it will let users move their purchases to computers as well for Cyberpunk 2007.

Meanwhile, Android Central reports that Embr and Figment developers are also giving away their games free of charge after the Stadia closure announcement.
