Kerbal Space Program 2 Gets an Early Access, Release Date

The next Kerbal Space Program will soon be ready for launch... sort of.

Intercept Games, the game developing company behind one of the most popular space flight simulation video games, has announced that Kerbal Space Program 2 is set for release in early 2023.

The game was supposed to be released in early 2020, but the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the team to delay it until further notice, per PC Gamer.

Kerbal Space Program 2 Details

Intercept Games mentioned on the official website for Kerbal Space Program 2 that the game will be bigger than its predecessor, with it being entirely redesigned to "meet the demands of modern and next-generation space exploration."

The company also said that the game would stay true to the foundations that made the first game a success.

Unfortunately, Kerbal Space Program 2 will be released in an early access state, meaning it won't be the full game when it becomes playable in early 2023. However, the same thing happened back with the original Kerbal Space Program, which also launched as an early access game.

Intercept Games called releasing Kerbal Space Program 2 in early access as a "homage" to the original game's launch.

Whether you like having the game in early access or not, Intercept Games has a good reason for releasing the game that way. Players can see its features as they are built and released periodically, allowing them to provide feedback and shape the game during its development phase.

These features won't just be the same ones imported from the original game. The company mentioned that it would also add new features that would "captivate" veteran and returning players.

For instance, the game will have new star systems, interstellar travel technologies that could be added to players' spacecraft, the creation of colonies, and even multiplayer.

The game will also have customizable parts and new space-flight technology which consists of a new generation of engines, parts, fuel, procedural parts systems, and more.

Visiting other planets once players' spacecraft goes into space is also possible, with them featuring clouds, atmospheric scattering, and an all-new terrain system that has "unprecendented detail, variety, and realism."

All of these features will be available on the game's early access, according to the game's roadmap. The other features down the map will improve what the game will have on it is released.

Kerbal Space Program 2 Availability And Release Date

Kerbal Space Program 2 will be available on early access on February 24, 2023, and would be sold for $49.99. Intercept games expect that the game's price will increase when the game version hits 1.0.

Although the game will be exclusive for PC on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and other PC sotrefronts during early access, per IGN, Intercept Games will develop console ports of the game when the PC version is completed.

The console version of the game is planned to be available on Xbox Series X|S and the PS5.
