Dog Attack Allegedly Kills Amazon Driver While Making Deliveries

An Amazon driver is suspected to have died from a dog attack while delivering packages to a home in Missouri, police say.

The Calgary Sun writes that a neighborhood report was filed when an Amazon van had been parked outside a residence for several hours, where the lifeless delivery man was discovered eventually.

Authorities In Missouri Are Investigating The Incident

Missouri sheriffs found a man's body in the yard of a house along with a German Shepherd and a Mastiff, which suspectedly attacked the man consistent with bite marks found on his body.

According to the reports, the deputies arrived on the scene when the owners were not present, and a police officer had to shoot and injure the dogs, CNN Business reports.

Afterwards, all the evidence on the scene was collected, and an autopsy will be performed on the deceased driver within the next few days.

The victim died on Monday after delivering an Amazon package to a home with aggressive dogs, which is a major concern for all delivery drivers who work for small companies that contract Amazon for deliveries.

Ray County Sheriff Scoyy Childers says that he hopes to have the coroner's determination on the driver's cause of death as the county has never seen a dog attack this severe before, CNet writes.

The authorities also said that they will be testing the dogs for rabies, and they will undergo examinations to see if there are human remains inside their stomach.

The Calgary Sun writes that the dogs' mouths will also be swabbed to see if there is any DNA they can gather that can lead them to any useful information.

The identity of the Amazon delivery man remains anonymous, as his family is still being notified about the unfortunate fate of the driver,

Furthermore, as of Tuesday, no charges have also been filed against anyone possibly involved in the incident according to USA Today.

Amazon Says They Are Assisting In The Investigation

The death of the Amazon delivery driver raises a huge problem in America as this was not the first incident of a dog attacking one of their own.

In a separate incident on Sunday, a different Amazon driver got his arm bitten by a dog in a neighborhood only 30 miles away from the recent dog attack.

"We're deeply saddened by tonight's tragic incident involving a member of our Amazon family and will be providing support to the team and the driver's loved ones," Amazon spokesperson Lisa Levandowski says.

While Amazon claims to be working with authorities in the investigation, the company still gets scrutiny for multiple reports on workplace safety violations on warehouse personnel and drivers.

CNet reports that workers advocates comment that the risks drivers face while delivering packages have dramatically increased, and should be addressed.

In 2021, one of five delivery drivers got injured on the job from animal attack, and even from altercations with customers.
