Twitter's long-lost conference is back in the void again.
The microblogging platform recently informed developers and other attendees that its Twitter Chirp Developer Conference, scheduled to begin two weeks from now, has been canceled.
Twitter's previous managers announced it was bringing the conference back after 12 years in mid-June as an olive branch to developers and get them back into the platform, per Tech Crunch.
Twitter Chirp Developer Conference Cancellation Details
Twitter mentioned in a tweet that its management had decided to cancel its upcoming Chirp conference as they work on some things to make Twitter better for everyone.
According to the tweet, the company is eager to share the things they are developing with people soon, though how they would go about showcasing it was not made clear.
Meanwhile, Engadget reports that the developers who were supposed to attend the conference received an alert notifying them of the conference's cancelation, though it didn't contain a reason why it won't go through.
A Twitter spokesperson declined to comment on the reason behind Chirp's cancelation despite sending media invites to register for Chirp two weeks ago.
A different Twitter spokesperson said that the event would be the first time the company would bring developers worldwide together to preview new tools, discuss feedback, and celebrate them for making Twitter easier to use.
Nevertheless, the cancelation is a blow to Twitter's efforts in getting third-party developers back to its side after its dishonest and capricious treatment of them.
You may remember that Twitter previously discussed with developers regarding its Toolbox collection feature, which offers the app's users third-party apps that could improve their experience on the platform while being aware of their product.
Amir Shevat, Twitter's head of product for its developer platform, mentioned that releasing Twitter's Toolbox collection is "the first step in [Twitter] working with developers to actually enable those needs."
However, things weren't looking up for Twitter's conference due to recent leadership changes in the form of Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter and his self-appointment as CEO.
It won't be surprising if Musk's takeover of the platform is the primary cause of the event's cancelation. It's been alluded to in Shevat's reply tweet to the announcement of him just saying "Winds of Change."
Although Musk has many plans for the microblogging platform, he has yet to come up with a plan to bring third-party developers back to Twitter's side, if he wants to at all.
Currently, he is having Twitter's engineers working on reviving Vine, creating a "content moderation council" on the platform, and charging a certain amount of dollars for people to get and keep their "verified status."
What Is Twitter's Chirp Developer Conference?
Twitter's Chirp Developer Conference is an event where third-party developers meet up and learn about Twitter's latest product updates and give feedback. It will let developers ask their questions to the Twitter Developer Platform team and even technical sessions.
The event also has a Developer Challenge that would bring out developers with the best idea on how to use Twitter's API v2 to improve the platform.
