Disney+ to Officially Add the Uncut Version of 'The Muppet Christmas Carol'
Beginning December 9, fans of "The Muppet Christmas" Carol" can watch the movie in its entirety on Disney+. This is pretty exciting news especially for the fans of that one scene that finally makes it to the uncut version of the film.
The scene we are talking about is the one where "When Love is Gone," which Gizmodo describes as "the beloved holiday musical's long 'lost' song," is performed.
"The scene featuring the melancholy tune—which appears during a poignant moment in the past for Michael Caine's Scrooge—was originally cut from the movie's theatrical release," Gizmodo's report explains.
The report also notes that the scene was previously added to the extras page of Disney+ as a special feature. It proved to be inconvenient for a lot of fans who want to watch the scene as they had to pause the film and head to the extras page to watch the scene before continuing the rest of the movie.
You can watch the scene that features "When Love is Gone" below:
Why 'When Love is Gone' was Cut From the Movie
So why was the scene featuring "When Love is Gone" removed from "The Muppet Christmas Carol" anyway, especially considering how much the audience ended up loving it?
According to Screen Rant, Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was the head of Disney at that time, found the scene to be too sad to include in a film meant to be for children. Because of that, it was removed. The film's director, Brian Henson, never wanted the scene to be removed from the movie.
