MrBeast Surpasses PewDiePie's Record on YouTube
Throughout 2022, MrBeast has been slowly catching up with PewDiePie's number. Finally, he managed to surpass his records this week.
According to Metro, MrBeast is closing in on 112 million subscribers as of writing. He has around 80 thousand more subscribers than PewDiePie . But this is still quite close enough to be a comfortable lead.
In July, MrBeast was in the news for surpassing 100 million subscribers. Now, he set another milestone for himself by surpassing PewDiePie's 111 million subscribers.
The American YouTuber is best known for his big-budget stunt videos. He is also known for his philanthropic stunts where he often gifts his subscribers insane amounts of money for completing tasks.
Perhaps, one of his most memorable videos is "456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!" In the video, he remade the set of Netflix hit show "Squid Game" and gave 456 people a chance to win $456,000.
Another unforgettable video is titled "I Spent 50 Hours Buried Alive." In the video, he was buried underground inside a coffin for 50 hours.
One of the most popular videos on his channel with over 100 million views is titled "I Gave People $1,000,000 But ONLY 1 Minute To Spend It!" Here, complete strangers got 60 seconds to spend $1 million that MrBeast would pay for.

PewDiePie, MrBeast are the Only Individual YouTube Stars to Hit the 100 Million Mark
Excluding channels that belong to kids' shows and record labels, PewDiePie and MrBeast are the only YouTube stars to hit the 100 million mark on the platform, Metro reports.
Considering the kind of content the two creators produce, it makes sense that MrBeast would actually dethrone PewDiePie, according to Kotaku.
In the past, PewDiePie has been a controversial figure. He has a history of public admonishments from both YouTube and the media because of his antisemitic jokes.
The YouTuber also used to joke about rape and has, at some point, used racist language against Black folks in his videos. But he has since apologized for this behavior.
PewDiePie started his channel in April 2010. He began by uploading Let's Play videos of action and horror games like Frictional Games' Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Naughty Dog's The Last of Us.
With his content, he quickly rose to prominence. By August 2013, he was already the most-subscribed individual YouTuber on the platform.
He was dubbed by The Verge as PewDiePie the King of YouTube in 2014. Since then, his popularity continued to rise until he was able to amass 111 million subscribers.
On the other hand, MrBeast is a family-friendly creator. He started his channel in February 2012 with videos uploads of Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Mojang Studios' Minecraft.
He eventually transitioned to what he's now known for, a YouTuber who's giving away money and prizes through expensive competitions and stunts.
