12-inch iPad in development with Apple, Quanta Computer building the tablets

As Apple gets ready to launch its iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 with Retina Display, the rumor mill is churning with new reports of a 12-inch iPad.

Apple just held its annual iPhone launch and is heading to another highly-anticipated device launch. The company is widely expected to hold an iPad event sometime in October, where it will announce its new flagship iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 with Retina Display. We've seen numerous leaks of both devices, so we have a pretty good idea of what they will both look like. The iPad 5 borrows the mini's popular case design by using thin bezels on its display and a flat rounded back. The iPad 5 will also be significantly smaller and lighter than previous iPads, but will still retain its full 9.7-inch display.

The iPad mini 2 with Retina Display is the iPad mini the world wished for from the start. The iPad mini has been rumored to be the company's most popular iPad and would have been even more popular if it had the high-resolution Retina Display found on its larger sibling. The company will finally bring the much-wanted display when it launches the iPad mini 2.

Since we're getting close to an iPad announcement, it only makes sense that old rumors are making their way back into the news. A new report has popped up, claiming that Apple has a larger 12-inch iPad in development and is working with Quanta Computer to be the manufacturer of the large tablet. Apple already has a partnership with the company, as it builds Apple's MacBook Air notebook. The report goes on to say that Quanta is looking to expand its business beyond notebooks with Apple, which it could be one of the reasons the iMaker chose Quanta to build the 12-inch iPad instead of Foxconn or Pegatron.

Whenever an Apple event is expected, we can always count on new rumored devices. Take this report with a huge grain of salt, as similar rumors of an iPad Maxi have been reported for years. With October just around the corner, we'll soon know more about the company's plans.
