If you play a lot of video games, you might have already come across titles like Assassin's Creed. Maybe you've even played one of the games in the franchise. The lore is rich with our actual history. So, how much do you know about the franchise? Here are a few facts you should know.
1. Time For a Lesson in History
It's obvious that the developers have taken creative liberties, but Assassin's Creed III is more historically accurate than you might think. According to Ubisoft, 80% of the named characters in the game were actually based on real people.
Other games in the franchise also referenced figures throughout history like Socrates, Leonidas, Leonardo da Vinci, Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, Charles Dickens, Queen Victoria, and so on.
2. Ubisoft's Pride
Ubisoft has a lot of games under its belt like Far Cry, Rainbow Six Siege, and For Honor. However, The Assassin's Creed franchise brings in the biggest profits. As of 2022, the franchise has already sold around 200 million games, according to Tech4Gamers.
3. Too Violent for the Game
Assassin's Creed III was supposed to have a tactic where Connor would scalp his enemies. However, the developer thought it would be too graphic. I mean, it's scalping. It's hard to imagine an assassin just pulling the scalp off of someone.
4. A Part of History Unexplored
Assassin's Creed has always taken context from history or mythologies. However, Corey May, the game's writer, said that World War II will never make it into the game's story, according to Game Spot. There's more than enough rich historical context in the game even without it.
5. Princess Anna is Also Lucy Stillman
Lucy Stillman has dialogues in three Assassin's Creed games, and it was actually Kristen Bell who voiced her. You're probably familiar with who she is since she voiced Princess Anna from "Frozen," as well as one of the lead characters in "The Good Place."
6. Batman is Everywhere
Batman is often referenced in movies, shows, and games. In Cyberpunk 2077, he was referenced as "Murk Man" when scanning through the notes by the Batmobile Caliburn in a tunnel located in the Badlands.
Assassin's Creed also referenced the dark knight with an NPC calling the playable character "another caped crusader." We all know who the most-known caped crusader is. Runs around in black and has billions to spend on cool equipment.
7. Almost Didn't Exist
As mentioned by Screen Rant. The first game in the franchise was supposed to be a sequel to Ubisoft's already-existing game, Prince of Persia. It's a good thing that Assassin's Creed made it on its own since it became Ubisoft's most successful project.
8. Destined to Happen
There's no end in sight for the Assassin's Creed franchise, but it's different for the writers. They already wrote the ending for the narrative, so whatever the story is now, there's already an ending that fits it.
