WhatsApp Enables Users To Undo 'Delete For Me' With New Accidental Delete Feature

Users of WhatsApp can now reverse the "Delete for Me" option in the event that they mistakenly deleted a message when they meant to delete it for everyone.

The newly added function called "Accidental Delete," gives users a five-second window to completely delete something they accidentally deleted for me from the group chat.

This Feature Is Available To Users On Android And iOS

Further enhancing the privacy layers, WhatsApp is now introducing a rescue tool for users who frequently unintentionally choose the "delete for me" option rather than the "delete for everyone" option.

By giving them a brief window to undo their error, the "accidental delete" feature will now help users avoid the embarrassment that comes with making a mistake in a group chat setting.

The message can also be recovered if users accidentally delete it, eliminating the need to delete it for anyone, according to Gizmodo.

Therefore, after deleting a message on WhatsApp, users will always have a five-second window to undo the deletion.

All Android and iPhone users will be able to access WhatsApp's new offering, the company announced, Tech Crunch writes.

In order to prevent awkward hiccups in individual or group chats, WhatsApp first introduced the option to delete messages from chats in 2017.

For seamless social interaction online, the app recently extended the window for message deletion from seven minutes to more than two days and now allows users to correct the error.

By adding a second delete option, WhatsApp users will have more control over their content and avoid the awkward situation of accidentally sending the wrong message and having to deal with the consequences for the rest of the time.

This change happened after the platform added privacy features to give users more control over their conversations and more privacy.

This included controlling who can see when users are online, leaving group chats abruptly, and disabling screenshots in view-only messages, NDTV notes.

Other features already provided by WhatsApp include the ability to block and report unwanted chats, end-to-end default call, and message protection, disappearing messages, end-to-end encrypted backups, and two-step verification.

How To Set Up Undo 'Delete for Me' On WhatsApp

WhatsApp claims that the new "accidental delete" option is available to both Android and iOS users.

If users are unable to use the feature, they should update their WhatsApp app from the Google Play Store or the App Store.

With that, Telecom Talk details the steps on how the new function will operate on users' devices:

  • Send a message in individual or group chat.

  • To delete for everyone, tap the delete button. A button to undo your selection will appear if you hit "Delete for me."

  • To undo your deletion, tap the undo button.

  • The message you just deleted will reappear.

Meanwhile, Meta disclosed that WhatsApp would soon receive an updated, improved calling feature, which will include Call links, message or mute participants, and 32-person calls.

Meta has also confirmed the launch of Picture in Picture on WhatsApp for iOS, a feature that was verified by Meta a long time ago for Android.
