As BlackBerry exits the consumer smartphone market, it has decided to start selling unlocked BB10 Z10 and Q10 smartphones through its online store to get rid of excess inventory.
BlackBerry's comeback didn't play out the way the company hoped or told us it would. Sales of its next-generation BB10 smartphones, the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10, never really took off. The company's new OS was very impressive, but multiple delays led many of its core customers to abandon the platform and move to iOS or Android.
The ailing company recently announced that it was going to exit the consumer market space and it has now been acquired by Fairfax Financial Holdings. In a move to rid itself of excess inventory, it has begun selling unlocked BB10 smartphones. Customers can now purchase both the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 unlocked in choice of black or white. The white models were exclusive to Verizon in the U.S., but will now work on AT&T and T-Mobile as well.
The unlocked BlackBerry Z10 features a 4.2-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 and a pixel density of 356 pixels per inch (ppi), is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with an Adreno 225 graphics processing unit (GPU) and has 2GB or RAM to provide a snappy interface. The smartphone packs 16GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot.
Its camera capabilities include an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing one. It also includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, A-GPS with geo-tagging, and a removable 1,800 mAh battery. It is available in a choice of white or black for $449.00.
The unlocked BlackBerry Q10, meanwhile, features a 3.1-inch diagonal 720 × 720 Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 330 pixels per inch (ppi). The smartphone is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor with 2GB of RAM to provide increased performance.
BlackBerry has also included an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter. The QWERTY-equipped handset packs 16GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot.. Other features include a micro HDMI port, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC and a removable 2,100 mAh battery. It is offered in choice of white or black for $549.00.
All of the smartphones are currently in stock and available in black or white.
