Waze Will Soon Alert Drivers of Roads Prone to Crashes

Waze is a Google-owned app that can help drivers navigate through areas, which also has a feature that alerts them of traffic accidents through live reports from crowdsourcing. The new beta version being tested comes with a feature that lets you avoid that beforehand.

What's New with Waze?

The updated version of the navigation app allows drivers to know which roads are high-risk. The app indicates this by highlighting the road on the app's map in red. However, the app may not apply this new feature for the driver's frequent routes.

In the event that the driver appears to be heading toward an accident-prone road, the app will send out a pop-up notification once, as mentioned in The Verge. The pop-up mentions that the "history of crashes" is a collection of reports from drivers and routes.

Since it's still being tested and in its early days, the new feature is still not available to all users, but it may be soon. You can always turn the feature off by going to Settings and toggling the feature on Alerts off.

This feature may not be as useful for people who use Waze on a daily basis in familiar areas, but it can be a useful tool for people who are traveling to new places. It can guide them to a different route that is less high-risk to make for a more comfortable trip.

Other Features on Waze You Should Use

Waze is a preferred navigation app by many for a reason. It has many added features that make getting to your destination easier ever since it was acquired by Google. There are also some fun features like using a famous person's voice to guide you through your trip.

The app has an audio player tool that lets you link music streaming apps like Spotify and Pandora. It's as easy as tapping the music icon found in the upper-right corner of the app and choosing the app you use for music.

This allows drivers to access music directly from the app without having to switch from time to time to pick a song or podcast. Safety-wise, this avoids potential accidents since the driver won't be too distracted switching from one app to another.

Waze also has a feature that factors in the type of car you drive to the route it will recommend. For instance, drivers with electric cars will be routed to more convenient roads instead of considering gas stations for fuel-powered cars.

Alerts are also not limited to the high-risk detection feature. Reports from the community can let you avoid events like traffic jams, car accidents, railroad crossings, weather-related issues, and other road mishaps, according to Slash Gear.

There's also the choice of adding fuel preferences to influence the route that the app will suggest. You can specify which type of fuel you use within the app. You can toggle to the Gas Station section in Waze and compare prices and payment methods of gas stations.
