Google is now infected with the Cordyceps fungi.
The popular search engine giant recently added a new easter for HBO's "The Last of Us" TV show that has people searching for the TV series or the source material to see how the Cordyceps fungi grow.
HBO's "The Last of Us" TV show is taking the world by storm, with it being HBO's second-largest debut in over a decade behind only 2022's "House of the Dragon," per Collider.
Google 'The Last Of Us' Easter Egg Details
People searching for "The Last of Us" TV show or the original video game series are in for a surprise. Entering the series' title and searching it up on Google will cause a small mushroom button to appear.
Clicking on the mushroom button will cause the mutated Cordyceps fungi to appear on the window. Doing so multiple times will make more Cordyceps fungi appear until the deadly fungi fill the window's borders.
If you have the patience necessary, you can even fill the entire window with the deadly fungi. According to 9to5Google, clicking on the mushroom button enough times will let you fill the window with the Cordyceps fungi.
People can access and have fun with the easter egg on their PC or their mobile phones. To fill the entire screen with the Cordyceps virus, those using Google on mobile will only need to tap the mushroom button three more times.
Those who use the desktop version of Google have to do more than three to get the same result.
Clearing the screen from the Cordyceps fungi you accumulated and returning to a more familiar sight is as simple as clicking on the red "x" button at the left of the mushroom button.
Sharing the easter egg with other people is also as simple. Instead of having them search "The Last of Us" up on their device, click/tap on the share button and select how you wish to share the easter egg with your friends.
You can choose to have them try it out through Facebook, Twitter, or email. You can even also copy and paste the link that appears on the screen for them to click/tap to enjoy the easter egg themselves.
"The Last of Us" TV Show's Success
HBO's "The Last of Us" is a hit with old and new fans alike. Aside from being the second-largest debut in HBO for over a decade, it also surpassed "House of the Dragon."
The spinoff of HBO's "Game of Thrones" received an IMDb score of 8.5/10 based on 297,329 reviews, while the TV adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us video game garnered a 9.4/10 IMDb score based on 71,869 reviews as of press time.
For a TV series with just two episodes so far, having that much of a score based on fewer reviews is an achievement.
The third episode of HBO's "The last of Us" will launch next Sunday, Jan. 29.
