T-Mobile branded Sony Xperia Z1 with 20.7-megapixel camera leaks online

A new image of Sony's flagship Xperia Z1 has leaked and it looks like T-Mobile will be getting the exclusive on the smartphone.

When Sony launched the Xperia Z, it was clear that the company was moving in a new direction with its smartphones. The handset was built using premium materials and featured an aluminum and glass body that was also waterproof and dust-resistant. The handset received glowing reviews for its appearance and performance. Sony would continue to use this same design aesthetic and waterproof/dust-resistant feature in its Xperia Z tablet and its first phablet, the Xperia Z Ultra.

In September the company announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1. As the name implies, the handset is based off of the Xperia Z but features upgraded internals and a high-end 20.7-megapixel camera that is also capable of recording 4K video. The combination of its design, powerful specs and first-class camera has made the Xperia Z1 a very desired smartphone in the U.S.

Sony did not reveal that the smartphone would be launching on a specific U.S. carrier, but a new leaked image of the smartphone shows us where it's heading. The very reliable evleaks has posted an image of the back of the Xperia Z1 with T-Mobile branding. It seems very likely that T-Mobile will get the smartphone since it was also the first U.S. carrier to offer the Xperia Z.

The Sony Xperia Z1 features a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) TRILUMINOS display with X-Reality for mobile. The smartphone runs Android 4.2.2 and includes 16GB of internal storage. It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM.

Its camera capabilities include a high-end 20.7-megapixel rear shooter with ExmorRS for mobile, Sony G-Lens and BIONZ for mobile, support for 4K video recording and a 2-megapixel Exmor R front-facing camera. Wireless connectivity options include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. The Z1 is also both waterproof and dust-resistant, has a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64GB microSD cards for additional memory, and is powered by a large non-removable 3,000 mAh battery.

The tipster hasn't revealed when we can expect to see the Xperia Z1 hit T-Mobile, so for now we'll have to look on the bright side of knowing this very desired smartphone will see a U.S. carrier release.
