John Madden’s Life Story To Be Featured in a Gavin O’Connor Biopic Series

People can watch the life of the creator of the Madden video game series soon.

Gavin O'Connor, known for his work on movies like "The Accountant," "Pride and Glory," and "Warrior," will soon be directing a biopic featuring the life of the creator of the Madden video game series, Raiders head coach John Madden, per Deadline.

Not much is known about the biopic aside from the production studios producing it and the people who would work on it.

The publication mentioned in its report that the John Madden biopic would be written by Alex Sohn, previously known for their work in "Untitled Coast Guard Thriller," "Vegas," and "The Garage Fighters," per IMDb.

Madden's biopic was initially envisioned as a movie, but Sohn realized that a biopic is better suited to feature the late Raiders head coach than a movie, saying that a TV series can accommodate a longer runtime to better tell Madden's story.

Meanwhile, 199 Production, owned by Tom Brady, will be executively producing the series along with Todd Lieberman's Hidden Pictures, Lit Entertainment Group's Adam Kolbrenner, and Religion of Sports' Gotham Chopra and Ryan Stowell.

Madden's family will also produce the biopic alongside the above-mentioned production studios.

The participation of Brady's 199 Productions is particularly important to Madden's family as they "pleged their lives on the project."

Madden's biopic will tell his life story and career, including his time as a head coach, per Gamespot. It may even include the origin of EA's Madden video game series, which was previously known as the John Madden Football video games, per CNN.

For those unaware, the original title of the Madden NFL games was John Madden Football, which was released in 1990 before the NFL added its name to it in 1993, allowing EA to use team names and logos. Interestingly, this is the game that EA first used the slogan "EA Sports - It's in the game" - something gamers came to love very well.

Despite the game's covers eventually shifting to featuring popular NFL players, Madden's voice is still prominently featured in the game.

John Madden - Who Is He?

John Madden, full name John earl Madde, was an American gridiron football coach and TV commentator known for being one of the best-known personalities in the NFL's history, per the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

He was previously a well-known high school football player that was drafted by the Philadephia Eagles in 1958. However, a knee injury that he gained during his first training camp prevented him from becoming a professional NFL player.

Instead, he settled as a coach for the football team of Allan Hancock Junior College. He then became a coach for the Oakland Raiders, a position he held for ten years, per Encyclopedia. During his tenure, he became the youngest NFL coach to win a Super Bowl, propelling him to celebrity status overnight.

Madden died unexpectedly on the morning of Dec. 28, 2021, possibly due to old age - he was 85 years old at the time of his passing.
