LEGO is launching a new set inspired by one of the most popular South Korean boy bands worldwide.
The Danish toy block maker recently announced a new LEGO set inspired by the South Korean boy band BTS that replicates the set of its hit music video, "Dynamite," complete with minifigures of the band's seven group members.
The LEGO set is scheduled to hit store shelves in March for $99.99, though when exactly in March, LEGO has yet to disclose.
LEGO BTS Dynamite Set Details
LEGO mentioned in a post on its website that two of the boy band's fans, Josh Bretz (aka JBBrickFanatic) and Jacob (akaBangtanBricks), combined their skills to create the idea behind the BTS set LEGO would soon launch to the public.
You may remember that people of all ages can have the sets they came up with created by LEGO through the company's LEGO Ideas page for it to consider if the idea is worth putting on toy shelves.
The set, which consists of 749 pieces, includes several of the primary settings featured in the Dynamite music video, such as the donut shop, record store, basketball hoop, and the ice cream truck that always hung around in the set, per the set's official store page.
LEGO also included the stage present in the music video in the back. Although it isn't a faithful replica of the one featured in the music video, it does let you make the minifigures of the band's members "dance" or move thanks to a wheel on the stage's left side that people can turn, per The Verge.
However, Jungkook's bedroom, which appeared in the song's opening verse, is noted to be missing, though it is understandable considering the amount of work needed to recreate the posters featured in it.
Regardless, LEGO managed to capture some specific details that they could replicate on a smaller scale, such as the graffiti behind the basketball hoop, the addresses printed on the stores' windows, and the Open sign next to the Donut shop.
This level of effort also extends to the hairstyles of the band's minifigures, making them distinguishable from each other despite them having similar hair colors.
According to Jacob and Bretz, the latter did the building and design work, while Bretz used his knowledge of the music video to direct what the buildings on the set should look like. The entire process of recreating almost everything from the music video took only a few days for the two.
However, they did note that it was difficult recreating the little prints and the designs of the band members' minifigures. Regardless, once they were finished with everything they needed to post on LEGO's Ideas page, the BTS 'army' did the rest and helped their concept reach 10,000 supporters.
LEGO BTS Dynamite Set Pricing And Availability
LEGO's BTS dynamite set will be hitting store shelves as soon as March, though the company didn't disclose when it would exactly happen. As for the pricing, the LEGO set would cost interested customers $99.99, which could limit consumer appeal.
The set, which is rated 18+, also comes with multiple expressions for the band members' minifigures, allowing them to wink or appear pensive, smiling, or bewildered.
