YouTube Kids is now more accessible than ever before.
Kids and parents can now access the kid-friendly version of YouTube on more devices, such as video game consoles, additional Smart TVs, and streaming devices.
YouTube previously limited access to YouTube kids to only select streaming devices and smart TVs.
YouTube Kids Device Accessibility Details
Youtube mentioned in an email that YouTube Kids is now available on more devices through its integration into the core YouTube app, per 9to5Google. As such, people can now access YouTube Kids on more smart TVs, game consoles, and Roku streaming devices.
Previously, YouTube Kids was only accessible on LG and Samsung smart TVs, Android TVs, Apple TVs, and Fire TV streaming devices.
People who can already access YouTube Kids through the main YouTube app can quickly navigate to the service by switching to their child's YouTube Kids profile, which appears on the YouTube app's Accounts page. This new method of accessing YouTube Kids removes the need to install the dedicated YouTube Kids app on streaming devices or game consoles to access YouTube's kid-friendly service.
This update also means returning to the core YouTube experience is now easier since all it takes is using the same toggle on the Accounts tab.
YouTube also noted that if people no longer want their kids to watch on its kid-friendly service, they can choose to delete their YouTube Kids profile by visiting YouTube Kids' Parent settings page to remove their kids' profile from the service permanently, per Engadget.
However, YouTube didn't disclose what would happen to the dedicated YouTube Kids app now that the kid-friendly service is now integrated into the main YouTube app.
Some people worldwide may already have the feature on their devices, but most YouTube users might not have the updated YouTube app yet. YouTube mentioned in the email it would roll out the update to families over the next few weeks.
If you wish to check if your device now has YouTube kids, look at the app's Accounts page and look for your child's YouTube Kids profile. If it's there, then you can use your YouTube App to access YouTube Kids at any time.
What Is YouTube Kids?
YouTube Kids, as previously stated, is YouTube's kid-friendlier version of its core experience. Launched in 2015, YouTube Kids limits the content YouTube has to curate, family-friendly videos, channels, and educational clips, per Pocket Lint. The dedicated app Google made for the service comes with a fine-tuned user interface that makes it easier and more appealing for kids to explore videos and YouTube, usually for the first time.
It also comes with large images, colorful icons, and displays five categories to explore within the app at the time of its release.
Interestingly, the app comes with a built-in timer that allows parents to limit their kids' screen time on the app, preventing them from overindulging. It also comes with its own search function that displays many of YouTube's kid-friendly videos.
