There's a good chance that you're reading this using a smartphone right now, which is no surprise since it's rare to find someone who doesn't have their own smartphone nowadays. But, how much do you really know about them? Here are a few facts that might interest you.
1. They Can Read Barcodes
A lot of people already know about phone cameras being able to scan QR codes, but not many know about smartphones being able to scan barcodes. With the help of barcode reading apps, you can use them for inventory management or scanning the prices of groceries.
2. Not as Clean as You Think
We have our phones with us almost all the time, but we never really think about how dirty they are. The fact is, there are 20 to 30 times more bacteria found on your gadget than in a toilet flush, so think about that next time you put it on your face as you answer a call, maybe even sanitize it first.
3. Too Much Screen Time
A lot of what we do in a day has something to do with smartphones. Either it's checking emails, playing games, or scrolling through social media. On average, people tend to check their phones 150 times a day, so maybe try to cut the number down to, perhaps a hundred.
4. Phone Sports?
You might be thinking, maybe it's an app that has something to do with sports, but not really. In Finland, they have a sport where they throw phones, as mentioned by EHorus, and the farthest throw wins. The record for men is 97 meters and 40 meters for women. Maybe an online gamer experiencing lag could throw it farther.
5. There's More Android
With the popularity of Apple, you'd think that they would have a huge chunk of the OS market if not the majority of it, but no. Android holds the lion's share. Back in 2017, Android actually accounts for 82.7% of the OS market. Imagine that.
6. Apple Did Not Coin iPhone Name
The iPhone is Apple's best-selling product, but funnily enough, it was not originally the tech giant's. Cisco owned the trademark for the name back in 2007. After some chitchat among executives, they reached a settlement and the name iPhone became Apple's.
7. Nokia Paperweight
It's sad to see that Nokia is no longer as popular as it was in the early 2000s. Although they still sell smartphones, 42% of its users don't use the phone for long. Eventually, Nokia users switch to other brands like the more famous Apple and Samsung.
8. Samsung Still Wins
Apple is making more from its iPhones than Samsung is with its own. In fact, Samsung will make more from iPhones than its own lineups, according to Best Life. Still, Samsung is earning both ways, so earnings-wise, Samsung still wins, don't they?
9. Photography Hack
When people want to take photos a bit further than arm's length, they tend to ask others to take the photo for them or set a timer. For groupie photos, you'll also appear more prominent than the others since you're much closer to the camera. Next time you take a group photo, try using your headphone cord as a shutter button.
10. You Might Have This
It's a common thing for people now to have their eyes glued to their phone screens. A lot can't function without them since many aspects of their lives involve the use of a smartphone. There's a term for those who can't stand to leave their phones at home when they leave, and it's called nomophobia.
