Apple Might be Launching an iMac with an M3 Chip

Apple is reportedly skipping the M2 chip for its iMac and going straight for the new M3 chip made with the 3mn process. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also mentioned that the new iMac might come in the second half of the year.

M3 iMac

Although there are still no official announcements, the new iMac is still expected to have the same 24-inch display just like its predecessor. It will have the same color options as the last iMac including blue, silver, pink, and orange.

Although it's probably not going to be mass-produced any time soon, it is said to already be at an advanced stage of development, as mentioned in The Verge, and Apple is already conducting tests for the production of the M3 iMac.

If the reports are right, there will be some changes to the new iMac's internal components. They might have a different design and will be arranged differently from the previous version. Along with other changes, the mounting of the iMac stand might also come out differently as well.

Worst case scenario in terms of release date, it could be launched as late as early 2024. Gurman said that he hasn't seen any indication that there will be a new iMac until the release of the M3 chip, which is expected to arrive by "the tail end" of this year or early next year.

If the latest iMac is to be released in 2024, that puts a three-year gap between the previous version, seeing as the iMac with an M1 chip and an ultra-thin design was released in April 2021, as pointed out by MacRumors.

In Case You Missed It

Apple is also already working on its iPhone 15 Pro Max which may be launched by September 2023. Reports say that the upcoming models come with curved titanium sides, an updated camera system, and a new Thunderbolt USB-C port for charging.

Rumor has it that the iPhone Pro Max 15's bottom-edge metal frame curves into the glass back of the device for a more uniform and smooth design. If that's the case, then Apple will deviate from its usual iPhone edge design since the iPhone 12, which is more flat-sided.

According to Apple Insider, the iPhone 15 might also now be made of titanium instead of its usual stainless steel. However, the glass back will stay the way it is to remain compatible with MagSafe charging.

There's also the possibility that Apple is changing its camera design for the potential periscope telephoto camera upgrade. The current telephoto lens is limited to 3x optical zoom, but if Apple upgrades it, it could zoom to as much as 10x to even 100x, just like Samsung.

As for the processor, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be getting the 2022 A16 processor, while the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max will get the A17 processor. It's also possible that the new lineup comes with Wi-Fi 6E support.
