Sony Xperia Z1S leaks, likely the T-Mobile Xperia Z1

Sony is about to launch a new Xperia Z1 variant. The Xperia Z1S could be T-Mobile's rumored model of the smartphone, expected to launch in the immediate future.

The company stepped up its game with the release of the Xperia Z1. Sony didn't skimp on the smartphone's internals, externals, and camera. The handset uses Sony's 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD TRILUMINOS display, a powerful 2.2GHz quad-core processor, as well as a high-end 20.7-megapixel camera.

Evleaks has posted a new image of the Sony Xperia Z1S. The tipster hasn't provided any information on the smartphone, but the image likely shows the front of the T-Mobile Xperia Z1 posted a few days ago. Sony has been known to give many of its Xperia handsets different names when launched in the U.S., and since the handset matches the image released a few days ago, we're likely looking at the T-Mobile Xperia Z1S.

To get an idea of what we could expect in the Xperia Z1S we can look at the Xperia Z1, which features a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) TRILUMINOS display with X-Reality for mobile. The smartphone runs Android 4.2.2 and includes 16GB of internal storage. It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM.

Its camera capabilities include a high-end 20.7-megapixel rear shooter with ExmorRS for mobile, Sony G-Lens and BIONZ for mobile, support for 4K video recording and a 2-megapixel Exmor R front-facing camera. Wireless connectivity options include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. The Z1 is also both waterproof and dust-resistant, has a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64GB microSD cards for additional memory, and is powered by a large non-removable 3,000 mAh battery.

While we don't know an expected release date, Sony and T-Mobile are very likely to launch the smartphone in the immediate future and just in time for the all-important holiday season. Once we get more information on the Xperia Z1S we'll be sure to pass it on and keep you updated.
