As the world goes digital, tech-oriented jobs are becoming more common. In fact, the top three jobs in LinkedIn's list with the highest demand are in the tech sector. Technology has made its way into all disciplines, from engineering to education and scientific research. However, working in tech requires a dynamic, growth-oriented mindset, and there is significant competition. The field is constantly evolving, with innovative trends emerging every day. Tech recruiters must monitor the latest developments in the sector to ensure they recruit flexible candidates. Here are the top trends to watch for:

1. Diversity and Inclusion

Technology was once a male-only job, but not anymore: there are more women in tech than ever, and the trend will continue in the future years. Women still face a steep uphill climb in tech compared to their male counterparts. Still, the landscape is fast changing, and the social acceptance of companies with an all-male leadership panel has considerably decreased. Tech recruiters must consider this and focus their outreach activities on diversifying their searches.

Racism is another complaint many activists have had with tech companies. Your average Silicon Valley tech company is still predominantly too white, but there has been a growing campaign to hire more tech experts of color. Indian Americans have been particularly successful in Silicon Valley, from former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal to Google CEO Sundar Pichai. However, a growing need exists to represent more African-Americans, Native Americans, and Latin Americans in tech start-ups. Diversity and inclusion are assets to any company, and tech recruiters must hire the most qualified candidates of all races and genders to keep up with the modern world.

2. Machine Learning and A.I.

There has recently been an A.I. boom across the world. From A.I. art bots like Midjourney taking the world by storm to content creation bots like ChatGPT becoming an essential research tool, the tech industry needs more people than ever to work with artificial intelligence. Likewise, machine learning algorithms (models that leverage data to learn how to improve performance in a particular task) are required in every industry. An ideal tech candidate must know how to develop, run, utilize, and interpret machine learning algorithms.

Recruiters can also use these emerging technologies themselves. For example, they can employ machine learning to sort through the various resumes and highlight candidates who best fit the job.

3. Upskilling and Reskilling

Tech is a fast-evolving world, with old methods quickly becoming obsolete and replaced by novel techniques that require new skills. Successful tech candidates must adapt to this changing world and be willing to upskill and reskill themselves with the newest tools and technologies.

Companies that refuse to invest in skill development programs for their employees will soon be left out of the race. Businesses now require individuals willing to learn new skills and have a growth mindset. Tech recruiters must also identify individuals who have a growth mindset and are willing to diversify and expand their skill set.

4. Remote Work

While the COVID-19 pandemic halted everything, it showed us an alternative way to work. Many companies offer remote work opportunities now, and some have entirely shifted to remote work as it saves them operational costs. However, remote work requires considerable online infrastructure, such as a stable internet connection and cybersecurity programs. A candidate must be skilled in coordinating through technological means to be able to work remotely.

Tech recruiters can now hire talent from all around the world thanks to the remote work policy. Companies can now benefit from an individual's skills regardless of where they come from and have individuals with new and innovative ideas at the table. However, tech recruits must ensure the candidate has the skills to thrive online. Consider candidates that have some prior experience working remotely.

5. Soft Skills

The new work environment emphasizes not only technical skills but also soft skills. Companies need well-rounded individuals with skills like communication and organization. Interpersonal skills are especially essential as most projects require teamwork. An individual must know how to work in a team, collaborate and communicate with others, and step up to lead or manage a project. They must also be adaptable and good at problem-solving. Tech hires also require good time and stress management skills. Recruiters must gauge an individual's soft skills in addition to their technical prowess. Prioritize candidates who possess not only technical knowledge but also relevant soft skills.

Endnote

The tech sector is ever-evolving and requires dynamic, adaptable individuals. Tech recruiters must keep an eye on the new trends in the industry. This entails shifting the focus to diversity and inclusion, the ability of a candidate to adapt to remote environments, and possessing a growth mindset. They must also emphasize soft skills and use machine learning and A.I. in their recruitment process.
