Apple Music Classical Pre-Order Launches On March 28

Apple said on Thursday that it will release a standalone app called Apple Music Classical on March 28 that existing Apple Music users will be able to download for free.

At launch, the collection will include thousands of exclusive albums with numerous renditions and interpretations, in addition to more than five million original classical music.

Apple Music Subscribers Will Get An improved Classical Music Experience

When Apple bought Primephonic and then shut it down, it claimed to be developing a standalone app for classical music.

Customers were left in the dark about the release date of the new software until this point since 2021, according to Engadget.

As part of an existing Apple Music subscription, the company today announced that Apple Music Classical will be accessible beginning on March 28.

Customers on the Apple Music Voice Plan will not be able to use the new app, but those on the individual, student, family, or Apple One plans will have access to it.

Additionally, according to the tech giant, the standalone app would provide "complete and accurate metadata" and allow users to "search by composer, work, conductor, or even catalog number."

Given its inclusion in the most recent OS upgrades distributed to developers, the service was thought to be almost ready, but the precise date of the launch was unknown.

Although the software is being released today, it is only now available for preorder on the App Store for iOS devices running iOS 15.4 or later.

Apple claims that users will be able to stream recordings in spatial audio at up to 192 kHz/24 bit high-resolution lossless quality, Engadget reports.

Additionally, users can look at written content including biographies of composers, summaries of important pieces, and "deep-dive guides" in addition to the music.

Apple also claims to have redesigned the app's search functionality with classical music inquiries in mind, and the app will now offer over 700 playlists that have been carefully selected.

Although the company has changed the contemporary sans serif font for the major headers and section headings, the app still mostly maintains the same style as the main Apple Music software.

The Apple Music Classical Service Will Continuously Be Updated Over Time

The company's choice to focus on classical music listeners with a standalone app is a differentiator for its Apple Music subscription service.

However, it is one that differs significantly from the features rival Spotify announced this week, which involved tech-forward features like AI and video-based discovery feeds.

Instead, Apple Music Classical will offer a straightforward user interface for listening to classical music, Tech Crunch details.

To find recordings, users will be able to do searches by composer, work, conductor, or even catalog number.

In fact, up to 192 kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Lossless audio can be streamed by users from them in good quality.

The app also enables users to read editorial notes on the composers and summaries of their most important works before diving into the recordings.

According to Tech Crunch, the tech giant commissioned artists to create high-resolution digital portraits of famous composers, which will be made public.

Apple notes, which were created with color schemes and creative elements from the corresponding classical era, as well as additional ones that will be introduced later
