Amazon Might Be Creating a New Browser

Amazon has the tendency to branch out into new projects, and the company might just put its efforts into creating a new browser. Users have received an email containing a survey that lets them evaluate web browsers.

Amazon Browser in the Works?

The survey for evaluating web browsers came with a variety of questions which according to Amazon, is their way of understanding what their customers value about current browsers. They also want to determine what users want the browsers to do better.

The survey will only be available until March 19th. The company noted that by participating in the survey, users would contribute to the innovations that could improve their browser experience, as well as millions of others.

The survey starts off by asking its respondents which desktop or laptop they use more frequently, which is followed by which browsers are often used on the chosen device. Browsers listed include Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and more.

It also asks how many hours users spend on their devices on a daily basis. By the third page, more important questions emerge, which might be there to help Amazon create a browser that internet users would prefer, as seen on the survey screenshot from Gizmodo.

For one, it asked which of the given choices would convince the respondents to use a new desktop/laptop browser. Among the choices were "stronger security and privacy features," and "offers AI-enabled tab, history, and bookmarks management."

It also asks how important it was for users to gave a browser that has the ability to import passwords, bookmarks, and more. It is followed by general questions like how often issues arise and what users use the browser for such as social media or entertainment.

Amazon Silk

Amazon is not new when it comes to browsers. It was first launched in 2011 and it is only available for Amazon devices like Fire Tablets, Fire TVs, and Echo Show devices. It was built on the Chromium Project and works like any other browser.

For the Fire Tablet, Silk can be used to search the web for new reading materials. Users can also browse to shop on the web as well as read the latest news and trends. Users can also do this on app-based Kindle devices.

As for Fire TV, users can also access the browser to stream "limitless" content. It can be controlled using Alexa or the Fire TV remote, wherein Silk users can go to streaming websites to view live events, watch videos, and more.

Echo Show is also able to access the Amazon Silk browser for activities like searching the web for food recipes, tips and tricks for projects and hobbies, as well as bookmark go-to websites and searches, as mentioned in the Amazon Silk guide.

It also has a responsive web design wherein users can access the browser using a computer or a mobile device. The website a user visits will adapt to the device being used so it would not affect or disrupt the display.
