Sprint Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 press image leaks

Sprint customers will soon get a new choice when it comes to Android phablets from Samsung. An image of the 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega has leaked with Sprint branding.

Samsung can be credited with creating and making a new category popular in mobile computing: phablets. The company proved the critics wrong when it introduced the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note in 2011. Many said consumers would not want to carry around a smartphone that had a giant 5.3-inch display, but since then Samsung has sold millions of units of the device that converged a smartphone and a tablet. The company most recently launched its 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 and the device is proving to be a hit on all four major carriers in the U.S.

Sprint launched the Galaxy Note 3 a few weeks ago and it looks like the carrier has plans to go even bigger with its phablet offerings. The always-reliable evleaks has posted a press image of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 with Sprint branding.

As its name implies, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 features a 6.3-inch PLS HD display and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz Nature UX. The mid-range phablet is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and includes 1.5GB of RAM to provide a fluid user experience. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 ships with 16GB of internal storage and also includes a microSD expansion slot with support for up to 64GB microSD cards to increase its storage.

The phablet is packing an 8-megapixel rear camera that can record full HD video and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. Its wireless capabilities include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. Samsung has also included an IR blaster universal remote control with program guide and a large 3,200 mAh removable battery,

The tipster hasn't revealed when Sprint will start offering the Galaxy Mega 6.3 to its customers or at what price, but we have a pretty good idea when it might be released by looking at the date on the phablet's display. Friday, Nov. 8 could be the official launch date and it should come in at around $149.99 with a new 2-year contract, which is the same pricing AT&T is currently charging for its version of the Galaxy Mega 6.3. We'll be sure to keep you up to date as soon as we get more information.
