Google Live Translate Captions is Coming to Chrome

Pixel smartphones are the only devices that support Google's Live Translate captions. However, according to the latest reports, any device that uses Chrome browser should get this feature soon. Google has been reportedly working to get this feature to its web browser in the last two years, and it looks like Chrome users will finally experience Live Translate in the coming months.

Google Live Translate on Chrome Reportedly Being Tested in Beta

As reported by Gizmodo, a Reddit user known as Leopeva64 posted screenshots of what appears to be Google's Live Translate captions functioning on the Chrome browser. The screenshots can be viewed by going to the r/chrome subreddit section.

Leopeva64 is a Chrome Canary beta tester, which is why he has access to Chrome's early access version with new features that are still being developed. As for the Live Translate on Chrome, the screenshots reveal that a caption box containing the translated text will occupy a portion of the screen. If the user is playing audio in a particular language, the caption box will display the translation to the preferred language of the user.

Based on the screenshots, the current UI allows the user to minimize the caption box or pin it to one side of the screen. Of course, this could still change in the final release version. It seems that Google has already been testing the Live Translate feature in Chrome Canary for several months, so the feature may make it to the public launch soon. However, Google has yet to confirm the release of this new feature.

This is the first time that the public got a glimpse of what the Live Translate feature will look like on Chrome. Last year, Leopeva64 updated the Chrome subreddit with details that the feature was indeed coming. According to the Reddit user, Live Translate on Chrome will have five language packs aside from English as the base language. These languages are French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

The Reddit screenshots show that the Chrome Canary UI lets the user add or delete language packs for Live Translate. There is also an option for Live Translate to automatically generate captions, which should appear next to videos or audio playing in another language.

Google Continues Adding More Convenient Tools for Chrome

Google has been committed to making the user's browsing experience even better. Recently, Google introduced a new feature on Chrome that allows users to add notes to saved passwords. As reported by Android Police, another notes-taking feature will be added to Chrome soon.

The desktop version of Chrome Canary reportedly now allows users to add notes to any website, similar to how people write down their notes on one side of a book. In the current UI, the user can just right-click anywhere on the website, then the "Add a note" option will appear from the context menu.

The info, which was also leaked by Leopeva64, suggests that Google has been testing this feature for several months. There is no confirmation yet whether the notes feature flag will be available for public release soon.
