Musk has always been ambitious when it comes to his plans with Twitter, and he may have just taken a big step toward that goal as he merged the bird app with X Corp, which means that Twitter no longer exists officially.
Twitter Merger
A court filing has shown that Twitter has officially merged with X Corp, which means that Twitter now only exists by name. Musk marked the merger by tweeting "X" after news of it broke. However, it is still unclear what his plans for Twitter are henceforth.
Many believe that is yet another step for Musk to build his "everything app" where users can make transactions like shopping, paying, and messaging in one platform, similar to how WeChat works, as mentioned in Ars Technica.
Back on October 5th, 2022, Musk also tweeted that buying Twitter is "an accelerant to creating X, the everything app." When someone pointed out that it was easier to start X from scratch, Musk responded by saying that it could "probably" accelerate X by three to five years.
Of course, everyone knows that the deal between the former executives of Twitter and the tech billionaire was not as smooth as planned, and Musk even tried to back out, but the Tesla CEO eventually bought the company for $44 billion on October 27th, 2022.
This could also help the Twitter CEO to reach his goal of making the company worth $250 billion in value. Musk even told his employees that they would be eligible to receive stocks in X Corporation, seeing as Twitter will soon reach the value he had hoped for.
X Corporation, which was set up as the holding company for acquiring Twitter, could soon be the parent company that will hold all of Musk's companies such as SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
What Exactly is X, the Everything App?
The tech billionaire is closer than ever to his dreams of creating the "everything app," X. He had already acquired Twitter, which might be the step that cost him the most, and he has already merged it with the holding company X Corporation.
Musk is known for attempting to achieve whatever he sets his mind to, even though some of them are arguably bad ideas or almost impossible to accomplish. Musk first had the idea of the multi-faceted app back in May 2022.
He believes that the US needs a "super app," and that can be done by either acquiring Twitter or starting something new. Regardless, Musk said that it needed to happen. He pointed out how WeChat functioned as Twitter, PayPal, and other things rolled into one.
Musk also stated that if you're in China, "you kind of live on WeChat," as mentioned in ZDNet. He explains further that it would be a "digital town square" where users can leave comments, and eventually make payments in both crypto or fiat currency.
Whether Musk is capable of actually creating the app he had in mind, no one knows. But, it's quite possible. Although it's important to take into consideration that Twitter is not thriving as Musk would hope it would under his leadership.
