Humanity now has its first detailed look at one of Mars' moons.
The United Arab Emirates' Hope Probe recently published a picture of a close-up look at one of its moons, Deimos, for the first time in human history.
The Hope Probe is the UAE's is expected to be the first probe to provide a complete picture of the Martian atmosphere and its layers, hopefully over one Martian year (687 days), per the official Emirates Mars Mission website.
The UAE sent its Hope Probe to Mars to study its climate and help humanity understand what Mars was like when its atmosphere could have supported life, per The Planetary Society. The mission it went on is the Arab world's first to another planet.
The space probe comes with an array of instruments to help it accomplish its mission of providing a complete picture of the Martian atmosphere and its layers. It has an infrared spectrometer, dubbed the Emirates Mars Infrared Spectrometer, to help it study Mars' lower atmosphere in the infrared band/
It also measures the global distribution of fust, clouds, water vapors, and temperature profiles.
Meanwhile, its Exploration Imager, dubbed the Emirates Exploration Imager, studies the planet's lower atmosphere in visible and ultraviolet bands and captures high-res images of the Red Planet, among other things.
Last but not least is the Emirates Mars Ultraviolet Spectrometer, which determines the abundance and variability of carbon monoxide and oxygen in the thermosphere on sub-seasonal timescales.
