The Apple Watch is not merely a companion app for iOS users as the Cupertino tech giant made sure that the smartwatch could help users take care of their health and wellness.
Apple has continued providing new features to the device, mainly to give users health insights. As per the latest reports, the Apple Watch will soon function as a health coach as well with the power of AI. The feature is expected to arrive in 2024.
Apple Watch's Health Coach to Create Tailored Workout and Diet Plans Using User's Data
According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on an "AI-powered health coach" that can generate personalized health advice for users. The AI coach can suggest ways on how the users can improve their workout routines, as well as change their diet, exercise and sleeping habits to achieve a specific health goal. The information came from Bloomberg's resident Apple insider Mark Gurman, who had already provided many scoops about Apple's upcoming tech.
Gurman reported that the AI health coach is codenamed Quartz. The AI model behind this feature is said to utilize the user's health data that are stored in the Apple Watch. The AI can analyze the data to provide health programs tailored to the users' needs.
For example, the AI can generate exercise routines, diet plans and sleep guidance for the benefit of the user. With this, the Apple Watch will be established as an all-around health platform.
As of now, the AI-powered health coach could be introduced as a monthly subscription feature available to Apple Watch users. Apple is expected to launch this new feature sometime in 2024, although Gurman cautioned that there can be changes in the company's current plan with the AI coach. For starters, the company has not yet finalized the monthly fee for the feature. It is also possible that Apple would scrap this plan altogether, according to Engadget.
Apple Could Tease the AI-Powered Health Coach at WWDC This June
If Apple is already decided to introduce the AI health coach to Apple Watch, then the public could hear more about it at WWDC on June 5th. The event will also showcase the highly anticipated mixed reality headset from the Big Tech. If the rumors are anything to go by, the said VR headset will have its own health feature called the Fitness+, as well as a 3D meditation app.
As per Engadget, the Apple Watch having an AI coach is not surprising since Apple has been committed to make the wearable device as a health-centric technology. It will also give Apple Watch users more reasons not to let go of the device since the AI health coach already knows what is best for their health.
Aside from the new Apple Watch feature, Apple is reportedly introducing the Health app to the iPad with the release of iPadOS 17 this year. The update is rumored to include a feature that tracks the users' moods by asking questions about their day.
