Microsoft Rolls Out iOS Support for Windows 11 Phone lInk

Windows 11 users can now link their iPhones to their computers like an Android phone.

Microsoft has recently announced that it has released iOS support for Microsoft Phone Link worldwide, allowing iPhone users to seamlessly connect to friends even when their phone is not next to them.

Microsoft previously announced it was launching a limited test to expand its Phone Link feature to enable users to connect their iPhones to their Windows 11 PCs.

Microsoft Phone Link Expansion Details

Android users that linked their phones to their Windows PC wopuld be familiar with what the feature provides. So long as the phone is linked to the PC, they can access their phone's apps whenever they want, as if they're using it themselves, even if their phone's screen is off.

For instance, they could copy something from their computer and paste it to an app on their phone and vice versa, open messages sent to their phone on their computer, and even cast their phone's screen to their computer and play video games remotely, sort of like Cloud Gaming.

Thanks to Microsoft's expansion of its Phone Link feature, iPhone users worldwide can now enjoy the same convenience as Android phone users do. Specifically, iOS users can now make and take calls, keep up with their chats, and stay on top of their phone's notifications, all from their Windows PC.

According to Microsoft's announcement, the company hoes that Windows 11 users will never have to worry about missing an important phone call or text while focusing on their Windows PC.

Unfortunately, Phone Link for iOS devices isn't as expansive as Android's; there are some limitations attached to the feature for now. According to an Engadget article, Windows 11 users with a linked iOS device can't send images and videos with their computer, nor can they group message people.

Additionally, the feature only works on a per session basis, meaning that Windows 11 users with an iOS device linked can only see their messages on their computer when their device and PC are linked.

Regardless, having this feature offers lots of convenience for iOS users with a Windows 11 PC since it is the most prevalent computer operating system worldwide per the UK's Competitions and Market Authority.

How To Link An iOS Device TO Windows 11's Phone Link Feature

The set up process to an iOS device to a Windows 11 phone is the same as the one for Android devices. Here is how you can link your iOS device to your Windows 11 PC according to Microsoft:

  1. Launch Phone Link or search for it on your Windows 11 PC taskbar.
  2. Select your iOS device from the list of connectable device and scan the QR code that appears on your computer's screen to complete setup.
  3. Customize how you prefer to receive your iOS device's notifications on your PC. At this point, your iOS device is not linked to your Windows 11 PC.
