Securing both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in computer science is already an impressive feat, but unlike many other software engineers, Jeremy Octeau didn't niche down into one subset of engineering. Instead of opting for a front-end career or deciding to specialize in back-end technical needs, Jeremy learned it all. His career has been filled with new learning experiences and challenges, but now, he's positioned as a source of endless value to the companies that he works with.

After his undergraduate studies, Jeremy worked in his home country of France for a number of years. He spent nearly five years working as a full-stack engineer in different settings and organizations. Everything from recovering data using Python and Neo41 to developing a training tool for public accountants using Java, Angular JS, and JHipster. His natural ability to learn new programming languages and apply them in unique situations equipped Jeremy for any future challenge.

Eventually, he decided it was time to pursue opportunities in the United States; here, the tech scene was moving faster, had more energy surrounding it, and was seeing cutting-edge organizations advance on a daily basis. Before entering the job market, Jeremy attended California State University in Long Beach, CA to advance his education. He walked away with a master's degree in computer science in 2019.

At CitizenNet, a Condé Nast company, Jeremy used his skillset to venture into a space he was unfamiliar with: social media. It wasn't his responsibility to create catchy captions or do manual outreach, but instead, Jeremy used programming to connect popular social media platforms with the organization's Social Campaign Management Application. He streamlined the company's procedures, made outreach easier, and directly improved the process of connecting with new customers.

Ready to move on from large companies and into the startup space in the US, Jeremy began working at BlueCargo at the end of 2021. The organization helps its customers streamline shipping processes by helping them to move their products from port to first-mile delivery in the quickest, easiest, and most cost-effective way. The transportation and logistics industry has been slow to adopt digital tools and solutions, but BlueCargo has helped illustrate the impact that technical tools can have on this entire sector.

As a full-stack developer at BlueCargo, Jeremy is constantly working on new projects and initiatives. Startups are notoriously fast-paced, challenging the internal teams to take on new endeavors and projects regularly, and to Jeremy, there's nothing better. He plays a critical role in developing the front end of the platform's customer application, as well as building robust back-end services and scrapers. A tool this innovative requires a lot of technical support, and without full-stack developers like Jeremy, BlueCargo wouldn't be able to optimally serve its customers.

Spending time solving problems on-screen is an obvious passion of Jeremy's, but his desire to help other developers refine their skills and have a greater impact is just as important. Throughout his master's program, Jeremy dedicated his time to teaching Python classes online to students that had never tried coding before. Teaching a new programming language to an experienced developer can be challenging, but to effectively teach students starting from scratch takes someone truly special.

Jeremy is someone who looks in the face of a challenge with a smile on his face and confidence in his step. He knows that learning is his superpower, and no matter what new skill he has to master, he's perfectly capable of doing so. This approach to problems has made a difference in the success of the organizations he has supported, but more importantly, it serves as an inspiration to both seasoned and brand new software engineers, showcasing that they too can accomplish anything as long as they dedicate themselves to their craft.
