The Minecraft movie has been subjected to so many delays since it was announced back in 2014, but it is finally taking shape, albeit slowly. It already has the "Fast X" Jason Momoa as one of its cast, and we might be seeing Matt Berry in it as well.
Matt Berry in 'Minecraft'
Perhaps it's a good thing that the latest addition to the cast is also known for the mockumentary show "What We Do In The Shadows." This way, we already know that if the Minecraft movie is going to be a comedy film, it has proven actors to make it hilarious.
People already expect great things from the movie, especially since it's adapted from one of the most well-known games. Jason Momoa has already proven to be a goofy person in real life, and bringing that into the film might just be the comedic factor it needs.
Momoa's personality alongside Berry's could be a recipe for an unforgettable movie, and it only gets better knowing that Jared Hess will be directing the film. In case you don't know, Hess is the director of "Napoleon Dynamite," as mentioned in Gizmodo.
It's still not clear what the plot of the movie will be. As opposed to certain adaptations like "The Last of Us," the game it was based on actually has a narrative it follows. Minecraft, on the other hand, is all about building and exploring an open world.
With a new casting, it makes us wonder which one would play the game's main character, Steve. Will it be Momoa or Berry? Of course, it's also possible that Steve will not be in the movie at all and the two will play completely different characters.
The Movie
We are now at a time where video game adaptations are actually turning out to be good, and we hope that the movie achieves the level of success that films and shows like "The Last of Us," "Arcane," and "The Super Mario Bros Movie" did.
It's also nice to see the film finally taking shape after several changes over the years since its announcement. Warner Brothers and the game's developer, Mojang, partnered to make the movie a reality back in 2014.
Another sign that it is well on its way, a release date has already been announced which will be on April 4th, 2025. Still, it doesn't mean that the date can be pushed if the production experiences unforeseen issues, as it already has before.
The first person assigned to the role of director was Shawn Levy, who has directed movies such as " Night at the Museum," "The Adam Project," and "Free Guy." Sadly, Levy left the project due to "creative differences" with the game's developers, according to Collider.
There have been a lot of switches since then, but the role ultimately landed on Jared Hess, so the movie is in good hands, comedy-wise. There's very limited information about the movie so fans have their imaginations running wild about potential plots, yet it remains to be seen.
