Growing up in Poland, Marcin Michalak spent his summers working as a lifeguard. After just a few weeks into the job, he realized that there was a shortage of well-trained lifeguards in the country, and with unusual tenacity for a teenager, young Marcin set out on a mission to change that. He became scuba certified, motorboat certified, and even trained to be a lifeguard instructor. From there, his passion for healthcare took shape and he decided to study biomedical engineering in college.
Close to graduation, Marcin took a job as a network and systems administrator for a water and sewage infrastructure company. There, he was able to take his theoretical knowledge about systems, computers, and hardware designs and put them into practice. This experience merged his love for healthcare with his talent for hardware engineering, perfectly equipping him for his next undertaking: Dr. Poket.
Dr. Poket started as a smart medicine assistant that would alert users of possible side effects and potential drug reactions of medicines they needed to take. It also brought together data to help inform patients of safety issues that came with drugs for certain situations such as pregnancy and breastfeeding. Using an electronic medicine assistant called PillBox, Dr. Poket was entered into multiple accelerator programs in the US, connecting Marcin with some of the best minds in the entrepreneurial space.
Now, Dr. Poket's next-gen product, HealthPoints is a dispensary device that supplies patients with the right dosage of medicine, vitamins, and supplements, making it easy to monitor what is being ingested and when. Stepping into the CEO role not only helped Marcin understand what it takes to bring a product to market and reach the right people, but it showed him how forming a brilliant team would be one of the most pivotal parts of his legacy as a leader.
With the same team from Dr. Poket, Marcin has developed products in a number of industries and verticals. One of his most recent is Dojo Health, a personal fitness assistant that measures the efficiency of a workout based on the changes in a user's body fat levels. Its advanced sensors analyze movements, blood flow levels, and the work muscle groups are doing, changing how people approach personal fitness at the most basic levels.
Though he's passionate about health and the well-being of his customers, Marcin knows that health expands beyond medicine and workouts. This passion led to the development of the Sentinel Impact Tracker, a product that uses the newest Internet of Things technology to make roadways in California safer for everyone.
Dabbling in ultra-low power consumption products, Marcin is involved in Tresor Track. It puts GPS-enabled devices in the hands of people who need to track critical goods or belongings. One application is pet tracking; Tresor Track ensures that people don't lose one of their most beloved family members - their dog. These devices don't require tons of charging hours or downtime, instead, they can be on the go as long as users need them to be.
Marcin's reach is wide, and his impact is deep; he has been recognized as a young innovator on the Forbes 30 Under 30 List and mentored many other up-and-coming leaders through business competitions and workshops. His entrepreneurial skills are next level, and for Marcin, it's the hardware engineering skillset that he also thanks for his success. To Marcin, he owes everything to being able to create new products that solve a problem, and that's exactly what he'll continue to do.
