The "Spider-Man" movies from all three different actors have been massively popular, even sparking debates about which fit the role the most. While the movies in itself were great, there are a couple of behind-the-scenes details that you might not know about yet. Here are a couple of them.
1. No CGI Needed
Remember the scene in Tobey Maguire's first "Spider-Man" film where he caught Mary Jane's entire lunch after she slipped? There were no CGI or other special effects that made that happen. Maguire actually did that by himself. You can watch the scene on Netflix.
Of course, there was a little bit of help. He had his hand glued to the tray to make it easier to hold. Other than that, Tobey really did channel his inner Spidey. Given that he's human, he had to redo the scene 156 times before successfully catching them all.
2. A Dedicated Actor
It was a dream come true for Andrew Garfield to get the "Spider-Man" role since he was a big fan of the superhero, so much so that he worked extra hard to do a good job. He spent six months working on his physique with a personal trainer.
Although, he didn't stop there. He studied the proper movements of both athletes and spiders to make his movements look more convincing, as mentioned in Movie Web, and he did. If you look closely at his movies, you'll notice that his movements resemble that of a spider.
3. 'Spider-Man' Roles Turn to Relationships
In the three film series, the actors who played the titular role all ended up dating their movie partners. Tobey Maguire dated Kirsten Dunst who played MJ, Andrew Garfield dated Emma Stone who played Gwen Stacy, and Tom Holland is currently dating Zendaya, who also played MJ. That all happened after Garfield and Holland were instructed not to date their co-stars.
4. Karen and Jarvis are Married in Real Life
The intelligent system in Holland's Spider-Man suit is voiced by Jennifer Connelly. Connelly's husband, Paul Bettany, also happens to play the role of Vision and is the voice behind the first intelligent system that Tony Stark created called JARVIS.
5. Wolverine Almost Made an Appearance
It was fun to see Iron Man in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," and we almost saw another MCU character in Tobey Maguire's "Spider-Man" movie series. Hugh Jackman was supposed to make a cameo as Wolverine. Sadly, that didn't happen, and according to Buzzfeed, it's all because they couldn't find his character's costume. Bummer.
6. A Pricey Cameo
Speaking of Iron Man appearing in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," Robert Downey Jr. earned $10 million for his role in the film. If you've seen the movie, you'd know that he only appeared there for brief moments, specifically, seven and a half minutes. That means that he was paid more than a million for each minute. Watch his brief appearance on Disney+.
7. Dr. Otto and the Puppeteers
Although Dr. Otto Octavius' mechanical arms had a touch of CGI in the movies, it was actually moved by real people to make them lifelike. Alfred Molina, the man who played Doctor Octopus, said that 16 people were controlling them like puppeteers.
