Adaptations of video games to TV shows or movies and vice versa have been popular as of late. Although it has had a bad track record in the past, we've seen several recent ones achieve great success, and it looks like "Black Panther" might be joining the club.
A 'Black Panther' Game
Marvel will have another one of its movies turned into a video game. A new AAA game studio is stepping in to develop the new "Black Panther" game called Cliffhanger Games, in collaboration with Marvel Games. The title is said to be both single-player and in the third person.
Based on its goal to create an "expansive and reactive world," it is expected that the game would be open-world, wherein players will take on the role of Wakanda's protector, the Black Panther. If its quality matches that of Sony's Spider-Man game titles, it has the potential to be big.
The studio that will work on the project is led by Kevin Stephens, the former studio head of Monolith Productions. Other industry experts who have contributed to franchises like Halo Infinite, God of War, and Call of Duty will also be part of the new project.
Stephens expressed that they are "dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience." They will do so by giving players more control of the game's story compared to playing a story-driven game, as mentioned by Marvel.
Mentioning that Wakanda is a "rich Super Hero sandbox," the studio wants to create an epic world for players who are fans of the Black Panther franchise and explore the world of Wakanda. With that in mind, it could feature a dialogue system that affects the game's ending.
Cliffhanger Games' collaboration with Marvel Games will ensure that the project will capture "every aspect of Wakanda, its technology, its heroes, and our own original story." Players will not only get to experience being the Black Panter but living a life in Wakanda as well.
Games to TV Shows
The entertainment industries are going hand in hand with its successful project. Aside from established film franchises and TV shows, video games are also being adapted and have surpassed their fans' expectations.
For instance, "The Last of Us" being adapted from the video game with the same title has been a huge success for Max. Seeing as the game itself already has a huge fanbase, it was only a matter of execution and viewers seem to thank that it has hit the mark.
Netflix has also been busy with adaptations. "The Witcher" in particular has fared well so far, although they might have trouble retaining fans after a favorite has left the show. Henry Cavill's departure and Liam Hemsworth's succession to the role have received much criticism.
Even in the earlier seasons, fans of the book series it was based on were already pointing out inconsistencies, sharing Cavill's sentiment of the writers not being loyal to the source material. The games by CD Projekt Red, on the other hand, are doing great.
