Tumblr Aims to Improve Its Platform to Attract More Users

Of all the social media platforms that exist, it's almost impossible for us to go through them all every day, and so we tend to just hover over the more popular ones. Other platforms like Tumblr have been falling behind, but they intend to change that will a few updates.

Changes in Tumblr

The company plans to achieve a bigger user base in order to maintain a sustainable company. With plans in motion, Tumblr will be going through a strategy to make it easier for users to navigate through the site, ultimately fixing its "core experience."

The social media platform has admitted that Tumblr is not easy to use, and so they will be following certain guiding principles to change that. For one, the company will expand its ways for new users to discover content on Tumblr and encourage them to sign up.

It will improve its SEO practices so that more users could discover what it could offer, as well as allow access to them without having to log in or sign up. This would show users what they could potentially see in the future and encourage them to sign up and spend more time in it.

Second, they want to be able to greet users with high-quality content every time they visit the site or open the app. When users search for the content they're interested in, they should be able to access them "without any confusing limitations or unexpected roadblocks."

It will also improve on replies and reblogs as the concept could be intimidating or confusing for new users. For instance, they will correct the platform's limitations when it comes to only being able to reply in original posts, as well as users' inability to follow threaded conversations.

Tumblr will also provide users with the ability to collapse reblog threads to make the section look more organized when exploring other replies. The company will also look into removing duplicate blogs in the Following feed to avoid repeat posts.

New creators will also be able to get more exposure with Tumblr not limiting posts with content from the accounts that users follow. An improvement in the "feedback loop" will encourage creators to post more content, even adding embedded Tumblr links for co-creation.

All the upgrades would be useless if the site is unstable, so Tumblr will work on its performance and stability to prevent crashes and make the apps and sites load faster. Doing so would encourage users in staying and participating more in communities.

The Competition is Fierce

It's the right time for Tumblr to swoop in as a social media giant is losing its hold. However, they are not the only ones who have the same goal, which is to be a widely-used social media platform to nurture engagements and communities.

With Twitter in danger of losing most of its users due to the changes, alternative apps have been offering what Twitter can't and one of those is Threads. The Meta app has seen millions sign up in just a few hours, according to CNBC, and is at 100 million since its launch.
