5 Social Media Myths You Should Know About

Social media has become a pretty big part of our lives now. Whether we're on one, two, or all of them, they serve as bridges to the people we know no matter where they are. With its popularity, it's no surprise that there is false information about them popping up. Here are the myths you should disregard.

1. Followers Mean Success

Whether it's for personal or business purposes, a huge follower base doesn't always equate to success. No matter how many more followers you gain, if you don't get engagements from them, it's basically useless.

This is where the saying "quality over quantity" comes in. For instance, it's possible for you to have 20,000 followers and only 300 likes, while someone with 700 followers can get 600 likes. Basically, your audience should fit the kind of content you post.

2. You Can Post The Same Content on All Platforms

Well, you can, but in terms of how it will be well-liked, you might not have much luck there. Social media platforms have their own cultures. For instance, something that you would openly say on Twitter might not be as fitting on Facebook.

All the sites have different requirements and specific user bases, as pointed out by eClincher. You have to plan a strategy especially when it comes to business-related posts in order to achieve maximum potential for interaction. You can do so by researching formats for each one.

3. My Account, My Rules

Nope. Just because you own the account, doesn't mean you get to say anything you want. First of all, there are policies on social media platforms that will prevent you from expressing certain thoughts.

Second, you have a responsibility to be sensitive about what you're posting since the content might upset the people who follow you. Ownership of an account does not excuse you from bad behavior.

4. Being Active on All Platforms is a Good Idea

It's a lot of effort to work on building up one social media account, so imagine what it will be like to handle several. In both personal and business, it might sound like a good idea to be on all social media sites to maximize your reach, but that might be counterproductive, as mentioned in Top Dog Social Media.

You first have to determine f your target audience uses these sites. For instance, if you try to gain an audience for your video game livestreams, although you will get views from apps like Instagram, your focus and time would be split from other fitting platforms like Twitch.

5. Social Media is a Free Marketing Tool

Technically, it is. You can post about your products or services, even personal content and a lot of people would see them. This is if you have a huge follower base and you put in the right keywords, but the question lies in whether your audience wants to see your content.

If you keep posting texts, images, and videos that your target audience isn't interested in, you'll likely get more unfollows than retaining your followers. Have you ever felt like you're tired of seeing the same ad on various contents? That's what it will probably be like.
