Amazon taking pre-orders for $179 8GB and $199 16GB unlocked Motorola Moto G

Just a few days after Motorola announced it would begin selling the Moto G earlier than expected in the U.S., Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the smartphone.

Motorola only released the Moto X to the U.S. and the new Moto G brings some of the Moto X features to the rest of the world at a very affordable price. The company has managed to come up with an unlocked smartphone with high-end features such as a 4.5-inch 720p HD display and quad-core processing at a price below $200. The price of the Moto G is one of its main highlights and something Motorola is hoping will sway customers looking for a new smartphone that offers many popular features at a low price, especially for unlocked smartphones.

Motorola began taking orders for the Moto G through its website on Nov. 27 and is offering the 8GB model for $179 and the 16GB version for $199, listing a Dec. 2 ship date. If you've been wondering when Amazon would begin offering the Moto G, the retailer has just started taking pre-orders and will ship the smartphone on Dec. 4.

The Moto G features a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 LCD display with a pixel density of 329 pixels per inch (ppi). Motorola has chosen to use a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with MSM 8x26, Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM. Users will get to choose between 8GB or 16GB of internal storage and will also benefit from 50GB of cloud space through Google Drive for two years.

The smartphone's camera capabilities include a 5-megapixel rear camera with some cool tricks, including 4x digital zoom, panorama, and slow motion video (similar to iPhone 5s). It ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but Motorola has already confirmed it will release Android 4.4 KitKat for the Moto G in January. You would be giving up 4G LTE network access, however, as the Moto G uses a 3G radio (to keeps costs down). You'll also find a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. Motorola ships the Moto G with a 2,070 mah non-removable battery. The company is also selling snap-on back plates to change the look of the Moto G. The smartphone will work on AT&T and T-Mobile's networks. A CDMA version of the Moto G will launch in January.

You can now pre-order the unlocked $179 8GB Moto G or the $199 16GB Moto G from Amazon. The retailer is including free shipping with the order.
