With all the news surrounding Twitter being rebranded to X and the unfinished removal of its headquarters sign, Meta is busy launching new updates for Threads. With recent additions, Threads is becoming more and more like the old Twitter that people prefer.

Threads Update

Meta rolled out new features that will remind you of good ol' Twitter. For one, users can now choose to view feed posts in chronological order from the people they follow, as opposed to the mess it once was where everything is mixed up in one timeline.

This helps Threads become a source of real-time information, as mentioned in Engadget, which has been one of the appeals of Twitter. It couldn't have happened at a better time as some people are trying to look for a new place to read news and updates.

You can switch to the Following feed from the For You feed by tapping the Threads logo or the home icon. Then, you can swipe to choose the feed they'll browse. In order to see the change, you will first have to update the app.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, along with Instagram head Adam Mosseri, announced the new feature on his Instagram broadcast channel, including other new additions that would make Threads a more suitable Twitter (or X) alternative.

The Instagram-based platform is now capable of translating the language into a post that you might not understand. You can do so by tapping the right corner of the post. This feature has also been used in Meta's other platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

You can filter your notifications as well in the Activity tab, whether they are follows, replies, mentions, quoted posts, reposts, and notifications from verified accounts. There's also the new button that makes it easier for you to mass-approve follow requests.

This is probably not the last update for Threads as it looks to be the go-to platform for the latest trends and information. We're still yet to see if Twitter pulls through and actually achieves its goal of becoming the "everything app."

What's Currently Happening to Twitter?

The company is busy rebranding the platform, which includes getting rid of the iconic blue bird logo that everyone is already familiar with. To show the dedication to that vision, the sign outside its San Francisco headquarters is also getting a makeover.

A lot of users on Twitter (X?) have been expressing their disappointment with the change, pointing out that changing the logo from a colorful bird to a bland X was the wrong move. Even the fact that Musk suggested tweets be called Xs is met with criticism.

People have been using "tweet" in both noun and verb forms. It's kind of difficult to imagine how that would be used with X. It just doesn't have the same appeal when someone says "Have you seen his recent X on X?" or "Are you X-ing about the latest update on Threads?"

Hopefully, all this would pass and Twitter comes through to the end as the app everyone comes to love instead of a reflection of Musk's fixation with the letter X.
