Motorola has announced that it will hold its Cyber Monday Moto X promotion on Wednesday Dec. 4 and Monday Dec. 9 to make up for its online store going down.
The company previously announced that it would celebrate Cyber Monday by offering an off-contract Moto X for $349, which is $150 cheaper than what the company normally charges for the smartphone. Motorola was also including its Moto Maker customization service, allowing customers to design their Moto X by picking out different colors for the rear case and accents.
Motorola's Cyber Monday sale did not go the way the company had planned. The website that was processing orders for the Moto X was the first to go down, no longer allowing customers to buy the smartphone or Motorola to process orders. Soon the Moto Maker customization website that customers were using to design their Moto X experienced the same outage. Both sites remained offline for, most of Cyber Monday costing Motorola sales and embarrassment.
"We have since found a solution that we believe addresses the concurrent order issue. Motorolans are hard at work right now, implementing that solution.
Here is what we are going to do: Starting at 12 pm EST/9 am PST this Wednesday, we will relaunch the $349 promotion. To help make up for this major inconvenience to shoppers, we will also add an additional promotional day on Monday, December 9. We will double the quantity of phones available, while supplies last, to allow as many people as possible to take advantage of the promotion. We're also extending the 30% off offer on accessories to these two days.
On behalf of all Motorolans, I apologize for what occurred today. I appreciate your understanding as we get this fixed in time for Wednesday and Monday.", said Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside in a post on his company's blog.
Motorola was not anticipating the amount of traffic caused by its Cyber Monday deal but is now ready to make it up to customers. If you missed out on Motorola's Cyber Monday sale because of this issue, you'll now have two more chances to get a Moto X for a serious discount. As a reminder, Motorola will offer the off-contract Moto X in 16GB for $349 and 32GB for $399. This price is good for a Moto X on any carrier and also includes the Moto Maker customization service and the Developer Edition of the smartphone.
