Mercedes-Benz's charging stations will soon become available worldwide.
The popular luxury automaker recently announced it would roll out its High-Power Charging Network in 2023 to various cities worldwide, with the US, Germany, and China being the first to get it.
Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced the other cities where it plans to install its High-Power Charging Network in the foreseeable future.
Powerful, Fast Charging Worldwide
Mercedes-Benz mentioned in its announcement that the first cities to get its High-Power Charging Network will be the US' Atlanta, Georgia, China's Chengdu, and Germany's Mannheim.
While the automaker didn't reveal why it chose these cities to launch its High-Power Charging Network, it did mention how it chose the location where its charging stations will appear.
The automaker said that the charging stations will be located in main traffic areas and select Mercedes-Benz dealerships. Customers who wish to charge their EV there can expect to find refreshments, snacks, and restroom facilities.
Mercedes-Benz also took the liberty of installing surveillance cameras to ensure customers' safety while they charge their EVs. They'll know when it's time to go when the charging stations' intelligent light poles show that their EV is sufficiently or fully charged.
The company's High-Power Charging Network is just as capable as Tesla's, if not more. The automaker revealed that the charging stations connected to its High-Power Charging Network will have a charging rate of up to 400 kW - 150 kW more than Tesla's V3 Supercharger can.
You may recall that Tesla's 3 Supercharger support peak charging rates allow drivers to charge a Tesla Model 3 Long Range to reach as far as 75 miles in only five minutes, per Tesla.
This charging rate is possible only through the respective standard charging systems CCS1, CCS2, NACS, and GB/T. Meanwhile, its intelligent charging management ensures that each EV charging at Mercedes-Benz's charging stations can be charged at its maximum power rating, reducing the charging time for customers to an absolute minimum.
A report from Tech Crunch revealed that EV drivers can reserve a charging point via the Mercedes me Charge service and expect features like "Plug * Charge" in its charging stations. The latter offering allows customers to automate the charging and payment process as soon as the charging cable is plugged in.
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network Availability
More importantly, Mercedes-Benz charging stations will be open to all EV brands, allowing all drivers to enjoy the capabilities and amenities of Mercedes-Benz's High-Power Charging Network.
The automaker plans to expand its coverage to more cities worldwide. Specifically, the company plans to expand its global fast-charging network to over 2,000 charging points worldwide by the end of 2024.
Mercedes-Benz intends to open more than 10,000 high-power chargers in North America, Europe, Asia, and other markets by the end of the 2020s, which explains the company's eagerness to open as many charging statins as they can before 2024 ends.
"Our goal is to create an infrastructure that offers electric vehicles reliable and easy charging options," said Franz Reiner, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG. "In this way, we are actively supporting the transformation to electric mobility."
