Samsung will be offering a watered down version of its recently announced Galaxy Grand 2. The Galaxy Grand Lite has just made its way through the FCC.
Samsung takes pride in offering smartphone users handsets from the low- to the high-end and everything in between. The company's phablet lineup consists of the high-end and top of the line specced Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Mega, which is offered in both a 5.8 and 6.3-inch size. The Mega allows smartphone users to get a Samsung phablet with a large display at a very affordable price. The Galaxy Mega, for instance, currently sells for $149.99 when signing a new 2-year contract with AT&T, while the smaller 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 with its high-end features comes in at $299.99.
There have been recent rumors of a Galaxy Note 3 lite and also a Galaxy Grand Lite. Both smartphones are expected to be watered down versions of their counterparts. We recently reported on the Galaxy Note 3 Lite, which is expected to feature a display between 5.49 and 5.7-inches. To keep costs down, the company has been reportedly been using HD LCD displays, lower quality than the Galaxy Note 3. The Galaxy Note 3 Lite is expected to officially be announced at MWC in February. Another upcoming Samsung 'Lite' smartphone has just passed through the FCC now.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Lite is a step down from the recently launched Galaxy Grand 2. According to recent reports, the smartphone is expected to launch with a 5-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800. The handset will be powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean at launch on top of Samsung's TouchWiz Nature UX.
Its camera capabilities are expected to include an 8-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front facing camera for video chat. It's unclear how much internal storage the Galaxy Grand Lite will ship with, but Samsung is including a microSD expansion slot for additional memory. The smartphone is expected to be offered in three-color options: black, orange, and lime green.
It's unclear when or if the Galaxy Grand Lite will be released in the U.S. At this point, we'll have to wait until MWC 2014 in February to see what Samsung announces.
