We may be a couple of years away from a PS6, or whatever Sony plans to name it, but we are a month away from the new PS5 Slim. Just as it is with its predecessor lineup, Sony also released a slim version for PS4 three years are the bulkier version was released.
PS5 Slim this November
If you plan on buying a PS5, you might want to wait a bit longer for the slimmer version. Sony is set to release the PlayStation 5 Slim this November. Eventually, the new design will be the standard version sold in stores as opposed to the bigger ones.
In case you're wondering, the new PS5 will have the same power as the current console that's in distribution. The only difference would be the appearance and the pricing. The version that comes with a disc drive will be priced at $500, which is the same as the previous one.
However, the digital version will cost $450, which is an increase from $400 for the previous version, as reported by Kotaku. But, it does come with the ability to have an external disc drive added, which will be an additional add-on that will cost $80.
The new PS5 is lighter in weight by 18% and 24% compared to the older models and has a reduced volume by 30%. The digital version will have a removable panel so you can add the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive that comes with the standard version.
The release this November is specifically for the US, Japan, and Europe. Sony has not disclosed when the release for other countries will be exactly, but it was mentioned that it will be arriving globally in the following months.
In addition to that, 2024 will bring new cover colors for the console, such as all-matte Black, Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. The covers will cost $55 in the US, with more variations to be released in the future.
PlayStation Portal for Remote Play
Just as the PS5 Slim is set to be released in November, the handheld remote console for the PS5 will be released on November 15th. It will allow you to play remotely by connecting the handheld to your PS5 console, which is needed for the device to be usable.
PlayStation Portal allows users to play compatible games that have already been installed on the console, which goes for both PS4 and PS5. It comes with the immersive features that a DualSense wireless controller has such as responsive vibrations.
The handheld has an 8" LCD screen with a Full HD resolution, capable of running games at 60fps with high image clarity. Since the device is made especially for the PS5 console, it can run the games and connect faster.
You need an internet connection in order to use the handheld remote-play console, but the PS5 and the PlayStation Portal don't necessarily have to be connected to the same network. However, you do need to have at least 5Mbps of internet speed for a good play experience.
