Motorola to launch the Moto X in the UK on Feb. 1

The Moto X will finally be making its way into the hands of UK smartphone fans on Feb. 1 and will be priced at £380 for the unlocked model.

Motorola officially unveiled its highly anticipated Moto X back in August, with the smartphone having a near simultaneous launch of Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. The Moto X was also the first smartphone that was completely manufactured in the U.S. and Motorola decided at the time to keep the handset as an exclusive to the U.S. market. There was never talk about bringing it outside of its home country and with the release of the Moto G, it appeared that smartphone fans around the world would have to settle for Motorola's budget 3G Moto G that shares a similar design to its flagship smartphone.

It looks like smartphone fans in the UK will finally be able to get their hands on the Moto X, as Motorola will be launching the smartphone there on Feb. 1. The UK will be getting the Moto X, but it won't be getting one of the things that make the smartphone a very desirable device. For now, customers will only have the option of purchasing a standard black or white Moto X and will not be able to use the Moto Maker customization service. Motorola CEO, Dennis Woodside, says the company will launch the service as soon as it can work out how to deliver the units within the same four-day window as it does in the U.S.

As a reminder, the Moto X features a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 720p HD AMOLED display and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. The smartphone is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Motorola's X8 Computing System on board and an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU). It will be offered with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, 50GB of Google Drive cloud space free for 2 years, and 2GB of RAM.

Motorola has also packed a 10-megapixel CLEAR PIXEL rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, with the ability to record 1080p HD video. The smartphone also ships with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and selfies, with the ability to capture 1080p video as well. The smartphone's wireless connectivity options include 4G LTE radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 with LE and EDR. The handset ships with a 2,200 mAh non-removable battery.

The Moto X will be priced at £380 unlocked or for around £25 a month when it hits retail shelves on Feb. 1. The Moto X will be available from Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u, O2, Amazon, and Techdata.
