Okta notified customers that hackers from the breach that occurred two months ago had stolen information on all users of its customer support system.
Okta's Breach Affected More Than 1% of Customers
Last October, threat actors were able to hack into Okta's systems and gather information from the clients using stolen credentials. The company took weeks to confirm the incident and announced that sensitive data were compromised.
Previously, Okta claimed that the breach affected only 1% of the total number of customers, as an effort to bring a sense of ease to its clients. However, a recent notice from the company showed that hackers were able to download data such as names and email addresses from the customer support system.
"While we have not seen direct evidence that the threat actor is using this list to launch phishing attacks against support system users...phishing attacks are a constant threat," the company wrote to its thousands of corporate clients.
Upon the notification, Okta also strongly urged its clients to use strong multifactor authentication as they might face an increased risk of attacks.
Okta's Shares Declines After Breach
After the recent report, Okta's shares are reportedly down by up to 7% in pre-market trading. Last month, the company's admittance caused them to shed over $2 billion from its market valuation.
The company has been expecting to report the earnings after the bell but Okta decided to postpone the report a little bit. Currently, the company's revenue for the third quarter beat the estimate of $563 million after gaining $584 million.
"We are working with a digital forensics firm to support our investigation and we will be sharing the report with customers upon completion. In addition, we will also notify individuals that have had their information downloaded," the company shared with CNBC.
