Samsung Galaxy S5 announcement on Feb. 23 to overshadow MWC 2014?

A new report from a credible source claims that Samsung will unveil its next-generation Galaxy S5 on Feb. 23 in Barcelona.

There are only a handful of consumer electronic companies that are able to capture the public's attention and interest for a device they have never seen. In the smartphone world, both Apple and Samsung have succeeded in not only tempting consumers with their latest devices, but they have also been able to keep that enthusiasm alive with unseen future devices. Even though the iPhone 5s was released a few months ago, we've already moved on to trying to figure out what Apple has planned for the iPhone 6. The same is true for Samsung and its upcoming Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been dominating the headlines on an almost daily basis and you can expect the attention to intensify leading up to its release. According to a very credible source, we can circle Feb. 23 on our calendars as the day Samsung will unveil the much-hyped Galaxy S5. Russian tech journalist Eldar Murtazin tweeted that Samsung will hold an event on Feb. 23, a day before the Mobile World Congress (MWC), to officially announce the Galaxy S5. He claims that the smartphone will be priced the same as its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, and will reportedly go on sale in late April. He also hinted that we already know the specs of the device from recent reports, including a brand new version of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface.

Eldar Murtazin has a great track record with reporting news of upcoming devices and he accurately predicted the launch date of the Galaxy S4 last year. If his new information proves to be true, Samsung's press event will take place one day before Mobile World Congress 2014 kicks off and would likely be the most talked-about smartphone announced outside the conference.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will reportedly feature a 5.25-inch Super AMOLED display with a jaw dropping resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and include a fingerprint scanner built into its display. The smartphone is expected to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 or Samsung Exynos 6 processor and have either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. It will run Android 4.4 KitKat and be the first Samsung Galaxy device to ship with an all-new redesigned TouchWiz UI. Recent reports have also suggested Samsung will release two versions of the Galaxy S5: a high-end metal encased smartphone and a less expensive plastic model, similar to Apple's iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s lineup.

It's always best to take these kinds of reports with a grain of salt, but with Murtazin's track record, Feb. 23 could very well be the exact day we meet the Galaxy S5.
