The issue was first noted by several Reddit users, claiming that the software has caused their Windows computer to "suddenly start to freeze on startup."

User u/Scared_Ad_7976 added that the software is apparently eating up 100% of the processing and memory of the computer, causing it to lag as soon as the software is activated on boot-up.

As of writing, the issue can only be resolved by uninstalling the software.

Gen Digital, the company behind Avira antivirus, already confirmed that is aware of the problem and is already investigating the cause.

An update to fix the bug is expected to roll out soon, although no specific dates were given.

How to Safely Uninstall Avira Antivirus from Windows PC?

The best way to uninstall Avira and other security software suffering major bugs from the computer is to always activate Safe Mode when accessing the advanced Windows startup menu.

To switch to Safe Mode, hold the Shift key while selecting Restart from the Power tab in the Windows menu panel.

Once done, select the Troubleshoot option and go to the Advance Options to open the Startup Settings. In the settings, select restart to reboot the computer.

Restarting the PC in this condition will show a list of options, press F4 to start the Windows computer on Safe Mode.

Completing this will enable users to safely remove the antivirus software from their devices. Just restart the computer after deleting the antivirus so that the Windows Defender will be automatically enabled.

The firewall will help Windows protect the computer from malware while finding better alternatives for third-party security software.

Avira Antivirus Causes Performance Issues in Windows

This was not the first time the antivirus system caused problems on Windows computers, particularly on Windows 10 devices.

The paid version of the software is also known to have difficulties opening or causing lags while other programs are booting up.

In some cases, the software is flagging false errors and making it difficult to reboot the device because of its protection system.
