Meta Quest VR Headsets Now Support Xbox Cloud Gaming

Meta has been having trouble with its metaverse projects, but it sure is doing something right when it comes to its VR headsets. With the Meta Quest, you are no longer limited to titles that the company develops. Now, you can play through Xbox Cloud Gaming as well.

Xbox Cloud Gaming via Meta Quest

Meta already has a good lineup of games for its VR headset like Beat Saber, Iron Man VR, Assassin's Creed Nexus, and more. But, with this collaboration, Meta Quest owners will be able to access hundreds of games through the cloud.

Cloud access is supported by devices like the Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro, although certain features such as floating displays can only be done through Meta Quest 3 and Pro since both have full-color passthrough, as reported by Engadget.

In addition to the display option, Meta Quest owners can also play games in an Xbox-themed virtual space. However, having the VR headset alone may not be enough to play the game titles available through Xbox Cloud Gaming.

For one, you will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership for the games, as well as a compatible controller and a stable internet connection to play them. Currently, the supported controllers are Xbox gamepads, PlayStation 4 peripherals, and Nintendo Switch Pros.

The Quest software your VR device has needs to be the latest version to run the games, but as soon as that's taken care of, you can play various video games like Starfield, Cocoon, and Halo Infinite through a large virtual screen.

With this collaboration, Meta Quest VR headsets are moving up the market as they become a more preferable brand. Not only does it allow you to access Meta-exclusive games, but you'll also be able to play games from both Xbox and Steam.

Wireless VR Gaming on Steam Through Quest

Steam has an extensive library of VR games you can play, and fortunately for Meta Quest owners, they can use that to play the PC VR games as well. The support has been around for a while, but it wasn't until recently that players can now do so wirelessly.

Through Steam Link, Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro allow platers to STream VR games from their Steam library onto the VR headset. It uses the power of the user's PC. With that said, there are requirements to have smooth gameplay.

The computer must be running Steam and SteamVR and have at least Windows 10 or later. The minimum recommended GPU is NVIDIA GTX970 or better, using a Wi-Fi 5 with a 5GHz channel. This only guarantees that your game will run.

For the best gameplay, the recommended specs are Intel Core i5-4590/AMD FX 8350 equivalent or better, 16 GB of RAM, NVIDIA RTX2070 or better, a broadband internet connection, or a Wi-Fi 6/Wi-Fi 6E wireless router.

You won't have to tinker too much with your settings as Steam has an Auto option when it comes to bandwidth. It will automatically choose the one that results in a smoother and lower latency experience.
