Microsoft's first update to its Windows 8.1 operating system is more than a month away, but it has already leaked online on several file-sharing websites.
When Microsoft first launched its Windows 8, the operating system brought some big changes that were not very well-received. The subsequent Windows 8.1 version sported notable improvements and made the software more fluid and pleasant, managing to convince more users to give it a shot.
The first update to Windows 8.1 is expected to come with even more improvements and positive changes, and it will reportedly aim to enhance the keyboard and mouse experience as well.
According to a new report from The Verge, Microsoft's first update for Windows 8.1 has now made its way onto various file-sharing sites, showing some notable differences.
The updated version will allow users to carry out many tasks straight from the start screen. Right-clicking on any of the Live Tiles will automatically display a context menu, which will instantly offer options such as unpin, resize, and more. The new OS will reportedly have a shut down button placed right next to the search key in the Start menu, offering a one-step process for restarting, shutting down, or putting the PC to sleep. Compared to the current process, this would be a very welcome addition.
With the current Windows 8.1 version, if you want to shut down or restart your computer you must first hover over the top right corner of the display to activate the Charms, then go into Settings, and from there select Power and choose which action to take - Sleep, Shut Down, or Restart. This cumbersome process has confused numerous users, and adding a one-click option would definitely make things a lot easier and straightforward.
Moreover, the new version of the OS will also reportedly bring a new title bar located right on top of the "Metro" apps, which would significantly facilitate minimizing and closing apps, or bringing them together. This title bar will appear whenever you launch a Metro app and will stay on top until you choose what to do with it.
The Verge further reports that Microsoft has also added a Control Panel link to the PC Settings section, and users will also be able to see apps from the Store in the taskbar. The update is also expected to bring a few desktop enhancements for a better experience.
This leaked version looks very promising, and it could add even more goodies before it makes its debut. Microsoft's first update to Windows 8.1 is expected to officially launch on March 11. What else would you like to see with the upcoming update?
