‘The Matrix’ Actor Laurence Fishburne Joins Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ Cast

It's been a while since we've heard news about Netflix's live-action adaptation of "The Witcher," and people are still bummed about the departure of Henry Cavill from the show. However, fans might be encouraged to watch the next season as Laurence Fishburne joins that cast.

New Lead, New Character

Despite all the backlash that the showrunners and Netflix received for losing Henry Cavill as Geralt, as well as the argued poor adaptation of the books, the fourth season is still happening, and the show is tapping into some serious talent to make things work.

"The Witcher" season four will now include a recognizable actor, one that you might know as Morpheus from "The Matrix" franchise, as well as the Bowery King in the "John Wick" movie series. He will be introduced as a character who has already appeared in the games, Regis.

As mentioned in Gizmodo, the character was first introduced in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel Baptism of Fire, and was described as "a world-wise Barber-surgeon with a mysterious past who joins Geralt on his journey."

The character's full name is Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy but is often referred to as just Regis, and is known to be a higher vampire. In case you don't know about some of the creatures that lurk in the Witcher universe, higher vampires are one of the most powerful creatures.

This is certainly an exciting turn of events, and we will get to see if Liam Hemsworth, the actor who will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt, can live up to the expectations that the latter has set a bar on. Productions are already expected to begin this spring.

Netflix expressed that after the "shocking, Continent-altering events" that transpired in season three, Geralt, Yennfer, and Ciri will be journeying apart in a war-ravaged Continent. "If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire."

What Can We Expect in Season Four?

At the end of season three, we know that the trio has been separated from one another, meaning that the first or first few episodes of the upcoming season will not show the iconic bond that Geralt, Yennfer, and Ciri have.

Since they have already cast Fishburne as Regis, the showrunners will likely develop a story that will lead to the fight between the higher vampire and Vilgefortz, with the latter being revealed to be more powerful than anyone knew.

We are yet to see how the fourth season will do, especially since fans have lost faith in the TV show after a series of misfortunes. Other than losing the lead that fits the role so well, writers have also been criticized for not respecting the source material.

Regardless, it might be checking the show out, especially after the new casting news for the higher vampire, Regis. With Laurence Fishburne's experience, talent, and range in acting, we might be surprised how the show can change for the better.
